The gala was in full swing, the grand hall filled with music, laughter, and the clinking of glasses as guests mingled. Wei Ying had managed to keep a low profile for most of the evening, trying his best to steer clear of unnecessary attention. But no matter how much he tried to hide in the crowd, his twins, Jingyi and Shizhu, were a force of nature. He knew it was only a matter of time before they caused a scene.
True to form, Jingyi's mischievous gaze swept the hall, his sharp eyes landing on someone he recognized-the "angel" he'd met at the mall. Without a second thought, Jingyi broke away from his twin and cousin, dashing across the hall with a burst of energy.
Shizhu, startled but loyal to his twin, quickly followed, his small legs pumping as he tried to keep up. Jin Ling, the same age as the twins, couldn't resist the chase either and hurried along behind them.
Lan Zhan had just broken eye contact with Wei Ying, still trying to process the overwhelming emotions that seeing him had stirred. His mind was a whirlwind, questioning how this connection between them could exist. But just as his thoughts began to spin out of control, he felt something small latch onto his legs.
Startled, he looked down and found the same energetic little boy he had met at the mall, Jingyi, clinging to him with an ecstatic grin. The boy's tiny arms wrapped around his legs as though they were long-lost friends. Lan Zhan's heart gave an unexpected lurch at the sight. The boy's resemblance to him was uncanny, down to the determined look in his eyes.
Next to Jingyi was another boy, equally familiar-Shizhu, his twin brother. Lan Zhan's breath caught in his throat. Shizhu didn't just look like him; he *was* him, or rather, he was what Lan Zhan had looked like when he was five years old. The resemblance was so striking that it was as if he were looking into a mirror of the past. And standing slightly behind them was Jin Ling, the son of Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli, watching with wide eyes.
Before Lan Zhan could fully grasp the situation, Jingyi-ever the bold one-spoke up, his voice carrying across the hall with the exuberance only a child could muster.
"I found you! You're the angel from the mall!" Jingyi exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with delight. "This is my brother Shizhu, and this is our cousin Jin Ling!" He waved enthusiastically at the other boys before looking back up at Lan Zhan with a proud grin.
Then came the bombshell.
"And guess what? You're our *father*!" Jingyi declared loudly, his voice ringing through the room with a clarity that could not be ignored.
The reaction was immediate. The hall fell into a stunned silence. Guests who had been chatting and laughing moments earlier now gasped in shock, their eyes darting toward Lan Zhan and the two children at his feet. Conversations stopped mid-sentence, and heads turned in unison to stare at the unfolding drama.
Lan Zhan froze, his normally stoic expression faltering for the first time in what felt like years. He stared down at the twins, his mind racing to comprehend the impossible words that had just been spoken. He had always been calm, collected-someone who rarely showed emotion. But now, confusion and a strange sense of hope were battling within him.
"Father?" he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper, the word foreign on his tongue.
Jingyi, ever the troublemaker, nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, Father! I told Shizhu and Jin Ling that I found our angel and he's my and brother's father!"
