The storm slammed into the Senju estate, rain hammering the windows as the snow turned into thick, muddy slush. The peaceful winter scene vanished, replaced by wild winds and a dark sky. The trees swayed wildly, their branches struggling against the storm.
In the calm of Hiromi's room, Shizuka sat by the window, her violet eyes drifting to the gray sky outside. Raindrops tapped softly against the glass, but her mind was elsewhere, lost in thought. Snuggled in a warm blanket, she held her nearly two-year-old daughter close, watching Hiromi sleep peacefully in her arms. The gentle rise and fall of Hiromi's breathing was the only sound, creating a calm feeling that wrapped around them like a cozy hug.
The crackling fire in the hearth filled the room with a warm orange glow. Shizuka gently brushed a strand of pink hair from Hiromi's forehead, smiling lovingly as she watched her daughter sleep, completely unaware of the storm raging outside.
Shizuka sighed deeply. The storm outside matched her feelings—calm on the surface but filled with worries inside. She couldn't shake the uneasy thought about Hiromi's future. Her little girl was growing up fast, and every moment felt special yet too short.
Just then, Hiromi stirred in her sleep, her tiny hands moving a bit as she snuggled closer to her mother. A soft coo slipped from her lips, and Shizuka instinctively hugged her tighter, smiling at her daughter's adorable innocence.
"Shh, it's okay, sweetheart," Shizuka whispered, her voice soft and calming. "It's just a storm."
As Hiromi drifted back to sleep, she gently laid her on the cozy bed and tucked the warm blanket around her, making sure she was snug. She placed a well-loved stuffed rabbit in Hiromi's arms, its soft fabric worn from hugs, and brushed her cheek one last time with a smile.
Shizuka took a moment to look at her little girl's peaceful face, her pink hair spread out on the pillow like a halo. Hiromi hugged the stuffed rabbit close, and in moments like this, all of Shizuka's worries seemed to fade away, even if just for a moment.
Carefully getting up, she made sure not to disturb Hiromi. After a last glance at her sleeping daughter, she moved to the window. Gently pulling the curtain aside, she looked out at the stormy night, watching the rain hit the glass.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a loud clap of thunder, shaking the walls of the estate. Startled, Shizuka jumped and turned back to look at Hiromi, who stirred slightly, her tiny body shifting under the blankets, but thankfully, she stayed asleep.
The sky was pitch black, with flashes of lightning lighting up the garden every now and then. Thunder rolled in the distance, its deep sound echoing in her chest. Though she looked at the storm outside, were distant—lost in the worries and anxieties she couldn't shake.
Shizuka made sure the blanket was tucked snugly around Hiromi before standing up. The weight in her chest lingered, but she didn't want to disturb her daughter's peaceful sleep.
