"What should I wear?", my mother questions on our call.

She woke me up to help her pick out an outfit for a conference she had today. She should have done all that last night but decided this morning would be best.

I yawn, "the dark blue pants suit is cute".

"You sure", she inspects the suit skeptically, "erm, yeah it's cute".

"Mhmm, and put your hair in a bun".

She nods in agreement, "I wish you were here to do my makeup".

"I can talk you through what to do, just go into my room and I'll tell you what to take up to use".

"Okay babe, I'm so excited!".

"Me too, I love that you're getting exposure, you deserve it".

"Thank you baby".

I watch her rummage through my things to find what I told her to. I have a large box that opens to various makeup tools.

"I have a pair of bow earrings inside the vanity, you can wear them".

"The gold ones?".

"Yeah, the necklace in there too".

I soon heard my brother enter her room, he got into her bed and pulled the covers over his head, he's such a kid.

"Get out a the lady bed Benjamin".

"Ano dat".

"Yuh hear from Santoya?".

He gazed at me, "no, a wah?".

So she nuh tell him?. Know a lie she did a tell.

"She nuh say her parents put her out", mi naah be the one fi tell him bout all a dat.

"Tuh, like dem wuda eva do dat".

See, ano me alone know she live in a good home.

Her parents naah just put her out, she a 22 years old and she still inna school, dem naah do dat.

Plus dem love her too much.

Santoya want fi experience struggles so badly. She wouldn't survive a day inna poverty.

Me and Benji know what it was like, it wasn't a nice thing, we made it out alright thanks to Misha Dennis. But anything Santoya looking for she going to find it out there.

"Help Mommy do her makeup", I instruct my brother.

He rolled over to look at our mother wiping her face.

I used to force him to help me with mine growing up, he knows a thing or two about the work. Same how he forced me to play his stupid video games because we don't have any other siblings.

"How you and Kamal, you start take him serious yet?", Mommy asks.

"No".

I climbed out of bed and walked to the bathroom, I brushed my teeth while she explained how I should give dating another try.

"We've had this conversation many times before", I remind.

"Goes to show that I'm not saying foolishness".

"Okay Mommy, whatever you say".

There's knocking on my door, followed by a text message from Milando, he wanted to go for a walk and wasn't sure if I was awake.
