A few days after we met for the first time, I was getting ready for my night shift at the hospital. Normally, either Arjun Bhai or Chachu would drop me off since I hadn't yet learned to drive. But tonight was different-Arjun Bhai was away on a business trip, and Chachu and Chachi had gone to a family function out of town. They had hesitated to go at first, concerned about how I would manage, but I had assured them that Sanaya would pick me up.

When I called Sanaya, though, she told me she had a fever and couldn't make it.

Panic hit me, but I couldn't back out now. My patients were waiting, and I couldn't afford to cancel my shift. So, reluctantly, I booked a cab, hoping that nothing would go wrong.

But of course, my luck had other plans.

Halfway to the hospital, the cab broke down. The driver tried to fix it, muttering something about the engine, but I knew it wasn't going anywhere. He offered to call another cab, but the thought of standing alone on this dimly lit road, waiting for who knew how long, sent a wave of fear through me.

"I'm really sorry, madam. It'll take a while to get someone here," the driver said apologetically.

I forced a polite smile, though anxiety churned inside me. "It's fine. I'll figure something out."

I tried calling another cab, but the signal was weak, and every passing second made me more anxious. The street was eerily quiet, and the occasional flicker of a distant streetlamp did nothing to ease my nerves.

Then I heard the low hum of an approaching car. My heart skipped a beat, but not in relief. The sleek black car that pulled up seemed far too polished, too out of place on this deserted road. A surge of fear shot through me as the car rolled to a stop beside me.

The window slowly lowered, and I instinctively took a step back, my pulse racing. It wasn't until the driver leaned over, revealing a familiar face, that I exhaled the breath I didn't realize I was holding.

"You again?" I blurted out, my fear giving way to surprise.

His eyes glinted with amusement, though there was an underlying note of concern. "What are you doing out here alone?"

"My cab broke down," I muttered, still slightly on edge. "I was trying to book another one."

He glanced at the broken-down cab behind me before shaking his head. "At this hour? Alone? Get in."

I hesitated, not because I didn't trust him, but because my pride was wounded. Still, standing here in the dark wasn't an appealing option either. "You're sure I won't regret this?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
