AUTHOR'S POV
As Mishti disappeared into the bathroom, Ishita stood frozen in the living room, her mind spiraling. She hadn't expected to find Mishti in such a state—pale, trembling, her eyes swollen with tears. Her best friend was shattered, and it wasn't just because of a broken heart. It was something far worse.
Ishita's hands shook as she sat down on the couch, her thoughts slipping into the events of the previous night.
Flashback to Last Night
It had started with a phone call—a heated argument between Vatsal and someone she couldn't hear. She had walked into the room just as Vatsal hung up saying, "I can't let it be hidden anymore Mihir bhai! I think we should tell her everything!" his face pale, tension rippling through his every movement. She now knew it was Mihir, mishti's brother.
"Vatsal, what's going on?" she had asked, her voice tinged with concern.
Vatsal had hesitated, looking at her with something unreadable in his eyes. "It's about Abir," he finally said, his voice low, almost regretful.
"Abir?" Ishita's eyebrows scrunched confused. "What about him?"
He sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. "I was the one who told Mihir bhai that Abir was involved in illegal business. That's why the fight happened between Mishti and Mihir."
Ishita stared at him, stunned. "You? You started this whole mess between them?"
"I didn't create the misunderstanding, Ishita," Vatsal had said, his tone firm. "I told Mihir bhai the truth. Abir is a mafia king, and he's dangerous. I had to warn him."
She had taken a step back, disbelief flashing through her. "What truth? How can you be sure?"
Vatsal's expression darkened as he leaned closer. "Do you remember that business party? The one where that man tried to molest Mishti?" Ishita nodded slowly, dread creeping into her veins. "That man is dead now, Ishita. Abir killed him."
Her breath hitched. "What? How do you know this?"
Vatsal's voice dropped even lower. "The man's brother—an old classmate of mine—told me. They found his body the next day, beaten to death. That's when I started digging. Abir is connected to far worse things than we imagined."
Ishita's stomach churned with nausea. She had defended Abir for Mishti's sake and had urged her friend to believe in his love. "Why didn't you tell me this sooner?" she demanded, her voice shaking.
"Mihir didn't want Mishti's fear of blood triggered," Vatsal explained, guilt lacing his voice. "He was trying to protect her. But I couldn't keep it hidden any longer."
Ishita had fallen silent, the weight of the revelation crushing her. She hated herself for supporting Abir, for thinking that maybe, just maybe, all of this was a misunderstanding. But it wasn't. And Mishti had been in the dark all along.
"I have to tell her," Ishita had said, her voice firm, her heart breaking for the storm her friend would have to face.
"That's why I didn't want to tell you either," Vatsal had admitted. "This is a mess, Ishita. We're stuck in the middle of something dangerous."
Back to the Present
Ishita snapped out of the memory as she heard the water running in the bathroom. Her chest felt tight, her mind racing. Mishti had just seen the truth with her own eyes—the blood, the violence, the man Abir truly was. And yet, all of it had already been building, hidden in the shadows, until now.
