ARIS' POV✲
I stare down at the message in my hands. Shit. My eyes fly over the words multiple times but it doesn't seem to make it any better. Friday at 11? I've got places to be. Important places if I want to keep on living–although I won't be telling Nicholas that.
My thumbs hover over the screen, chewing on my lip as I get ready for word. He sent me this text last night and I have no idea how to reply to it. I already know he's going to be pissed at the idea of changing the time but right now my heart check up is more important.
"Here goes nothing," I mumble to myself before punching out a text.
I cringe inside because telling an employer you can't make the time is pretty much unheard of. You change your plans for them, not the other way around. Ah, this is already going to be a flying start... I can sense it.
My smile deflates when I stare at the message I've written. I run a hand down my face in frustration. This is the best I can do. If he doesn't understand then maybe the job isn't for me–even though he's willing to pay £1,500 a week. That number still blows my mind every time I think about it.
It's obvious he's wealthy, rich, whatever you want to call it. I've heard stories about his and Declan's dad. He tried to tear down Chessman's which didn't work out in his favour because Luca told me Declan threatened them
Both Declan and Nick have made something from themselves, diving into the world of business but doing it by themselves. I don't know much about Nick's side of things but I remember Declan mentioning him wanting to create a business app and launch it soon which is why he needs someone to look after Elodie so he can get it completed.
I suck in a breath and look at the message once more. It's now or never.
My thumb presses down on the send button and instantly I'm swarmed with anxiety, to the point where my stomach rolls over inside me.
Aris: Hi, Nicholas. Unfortunately I can't make Friday at 11 for personal reasons. Could we do later in the day?
That seems fair... right? I'm not shutting it down. I didn't want to mention the appointment because that's my business.
My phone buzzes a few moments later.
Nick: Then what time do you suggest, Aris?
I blink at the text. It feels blunt, passive aggressive. I've not even met the guy and I'm already getting these vibes from him. Shit. I should probably probe Luca more about him, I've asked next to no questions. I should have been better prepared for this.
Aris: Would 2PM the same day be alright?
Nick: 2PM is fine. I'll send you the address. Please don't be late, I have a very tight schedule that I need to stick to.
Aris: Of course, thank you. I look forward to meeting you then.
When he doesn't reply I silently groan. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe it's the fact I'm acting like a fifteen year old getting his first job. I look forward to meeting you then. Good God, he's probably scowling at his phone whilst he gets on with his 'schedule'.
I glance at myself in the mirror and roll back my shoulders. "You've got this, Aris," I whisper to myself before grabbing my coat and heading out the door.
As soon as I get to Chessman's, Luca is already behind the counter. He greets me with a smile and a hello as I leave my coat and bag in the back room. I place the apron over my head and join him.
