ARIS' POV

Four months later

I step through the front door of my home to find Nick directly in front of me. "Uhh, hi." I laugh as he blocks the entrance. "What's going on?"

"Hi. I need to put this on you," he raises a black tie.

"On my neck?"

Nick rolls his eyes. "No. On your face."

My brows raise. "Oh... are we getting kinky? I can totally be down with that."

"No," he chuckles. "Although I am not opposed to it."

"Then what's going on?"

"It's a surprise."

"What is?"

"Well it wouldn't be a surprise if I told you."

I groan. "I hate this."

"Na," he shakes his head with a soft smirk. "You love me."

"Those are two different things."

"Close your eyes, Please." He orders and I oblige. Nick wraps the tie around my eyes and tightens it at the back. I'm swarmed with darkness. "Can you see anything?"

I shake my head. "It's pitch black."

"Great."

He tugs me inside the house and shuts the door behind me. He holds onto my hand and guides me through the hall before walking down to the end of the house. "Okay," he pauses. "I want you to take off your blindfold in thirty seconds from when I leave you."

Alarm bells start ringing in my head. "What's going on, Nick?"

His deep laugh soothes me. "Breathe for me, baby. Just trust me. Okay? I don't want anything to ruin this."

"Okay..." I wait as he stops us and rotates me.

"Thirty seconds from when I take my hands off you. Got it? Not a second before."

"Okay," I whisper.

Nick's hands leave mine and I start counting in my head. Once I reach thirty I peel off the tie and blink as my eyes adjust to the light. I'm at the end of the hall and there are balloons dangling from the ceiling with polaroid pictures hanging from them.

I freeze. "Nick?"

The sound of soft music plays from the living room. I start walking towards the balloons as I admire the pictures on them. A photo of me and Nick on Christmas day. A photo of Elodie on my shoulders at the funfair. A photo of the three of us at the beach.

My eyes well with tears as I look at every single one of them. All of my favourite memories from the last few months of my recovery. The most special days of my life. Ones that remind me my life is going to be packed full of love and happiness

I step through the hall and into the living room where rose petals cover the floor and more balloons coat the ceiling and are stuck to furniture. I know how precious Nick is of mess but this is another level of change. Candles litter the space in the dim lighting.

Elodie stands next to her father as I pause in front of them. "What is–"

Nick removes his hand from his back and slowly begins to sink down onto one knee. My throat tenses as the sight of him before me. He holds a little black box between his hands. I cup a hand over my mouth in shock.

My heart thumps so hard that I almost fall over. He opens the box to show a gold ring with a beautiful pattern that's been engraved into the jewellery. It's beautiful. It's stunning. "Nick–"

"Aris," his voice wobbles. "God. You make me the happiest man in the world. I want to be with you forever. You're our family. You will always be our family and I want nothing more than to call you my husband. I love you. We love you."

I flick my gaze to Elodie for a second. She's wearing the cutest love heart dress with pink bows in her hair and a cheesy grin. I choke out a sob that is almost a laugh but I'm crumbling at this sweet gesture.

"Marry me," Nick asks boldly. "Please, will you marry me? I vow to make you as happy as you make me everyday without fail. I vow to let you know how amazing you are everyday. I vow to be the best version of myself–always. I vow to never let you forget how loved and cherished you are."

I stand there in awe. Unable to say anything. Shock doesn't even justify how I'm feeling.

Something falters in Nick's eyes. "I can't wait any longer," he exhales. "I know you think it might be soon but to me it can't be soon enough. I know what I want and I want to marry you. I haven't stopped thinking about it for months and I need to call you my husband. Aris, please... will you do me the honour and marry me?"

My head nods as tears slip down my cheeks. "Yes, Yes, I'll marry you."

Elodie claps as Nick slides the ring onto my finger and he stands as I wrap my arms around his neck. "Oh my God," I tremble. "I love you."

"I love you too," he whispers before pulling back and taking my face between his hands.

The kiss that he leaves on my lips knocks the air out of my lungs and I smile. "I can't wait to marry you. I can't wait to be your husband."

Nick groans with a nod. "I can't wait to be your husband either."

I stare at the ring before Nick pulls Elodie into his arms. I stroke back her hair gently and press a kiss to her forehead. "I love you too, sweetheart. You are both my entire soul."

"I love you, Aris."

"Els, look." Nick diverts her attention to the ring sitting on my finger. "Look how perfect it is."

My hand raises to her eyes and she gasps. "I told you that one was the best, daddy."

"You went ring shopping together?" My throat tightens at the cuteness.

"Yeah," Elodie grins. "It's the one I loved the most."

My eyes begin to weep once more. "I love it. It's perfect. Thank you."

Nick slides an arm around my back and tugs me towards the pair of them. We all embrace and I kiss Elodie's cheek. "I'm so happy," she murmurs. "I get to have two dads!"

"I'm so happy too," I whisper with tears clouding my eyes. "You guys are my entire life."

And in that moment I knew that nothing could beat this feeling. I'm on top of the world.

I have a new working heart.

I have an incredible little girl who keeps me on my toes. Always.

And soon I will be married to the most amazing man I've ever met.

Life is pretty great and I know the best is yet to come.
