Seonghwa
When the evening came, Seonghwa was all by himself at the border of the Ice Folks and the Magical Forest.
He stood above the very thin ice of the frozen river. The ice cracking beneath his bare feet with every heavy step he took.
The powerful winter spirits were still somewhere around Yunho's cabin, keeping an eye on Hongjoong and his fate.
Even if Hongjoong stayed, it would be more painful for him. Imagining his loved one to die and end up all alone. He'd rather take responsibility to watch over the Land of Ice.
His old kingdom had probably already crumbled for good. And so did his heart for Hongjoong. The once curious young prince, forever cursed with this life and his pirate lover with forever youthness, now dying of a incurable coldness curse caused by no other than himself.
Sometimes things don't go the way he want it to be and only end up pushing too far that he has to be punished for his own actions.
And this is why you should never fall for your enemies. Sometimes, enemies are meant to be enemies and nothing could change that. If it was forbidden in the first place, it was meant to be that way. Take it as a lesson that what ever is forbidden, will always stay forbidden and that's what Seonghwa and Hongjoong failed to understand.
They thought they could change the past but only made the future more miserable. Some things are just meant to be and we can't force things to go our way and expect it to change overnight. That was not how their life worked.
But the biggest mystery to them was what if Seonghwa had never found himself walking to the shore that day? Never stumbling across Hongjoong and the pirates. Would it be different?
But that would mean he never have Hongjoong in his life and he can't imagine that happening. But he had to admit, maybe they took it too far that now death was walking up to the both of them.
He was grateful for those days they both sneaked to see each other and he will never forget nor regret the risks he took for their love. Only for it to stay forbidden.
Forbidden love is one of the worst downfalls in life they have ever experienced.
Question, would Seonghwa do it all over again?
If it was with each other, a million times yes.
That's how much he loves him. Doesn't matter if it is forbidden, it will always be love to him.
This is why you don't fall for your enemies.
But Hongjoong was never an enemy to him.
Seonghwa looked down at his feet, the ice underneath started to break at a rapid pace. He closes his eyes as the frozen river completely broke open and the freezing cold water swallowed him whole.
The cold didn't bother him, he swam to the ice surface to place his hand over it. The river froze once more at his touch, locking him in the water to drown. That was his plan.
Hongjoong was at the verge of dying.
Since Seonghwa can't die normally like out of old age, he needed someone or something to end his life. And this was him, drowning himself instead.
If he can't be with Hongjoong in this life, atleast let them be together in the afterlife.
Soon enough Seonghwa's lungs started to burn, more and more oxygen left and he was starting to inhale the water. The tight feeling closing around his neck was both unbearable and satisfying.
This is how it will all end, Seonghwa drowning himself while Hongjoong was freezing to death.
It seemed like a good way to go knowing you'll meet your lover halfway in the afterlife.
Seonghwa can't let it go.
He just can't accept this.
And he will never accept the fact that he's the reason behind Hongjoong's suffering and soon his death.
Nor can he say goodbye.
His lungs continued to burn like hell and his head completely fogged.
