My first internship day in Fleur de Lens.

I am walking down along Lexington Avenue, feeling the anticipation in my chest, my eyes tracing the towering buildings around me. Then, there it was—Fleur de Lens, sitting at the corner of 57th Street. Its name synonymous with high fashion photography, stood tall and commanding. It's not just an ordinary photography but also it focuses on fashion photography. That reminded me of Sydney Blake as I've heard of it. A rush of excitement and a little nervousness hit me. This was it—my first day.

As I walked in, memories of Sydney came rushing back. It had been a whirlwind since we parted ways at O'Hare. I missed her, but this was a step toward something big. I knew she'd be proud of me. Besides, she'd kill it at Marseille Fashion. We may be far apart, but it felt like our dreams are still intertwined.

After checking in, I am directed to step into the office of Mrs. Daugherty, my mentor, where she greeted me with a smile. I was delighted how impressed she'd been during my interview—not only with my fast learning in shooting techniques but also my ability to speak some French, which would come in handy since Fleur de Lens had several clients from France and Canada.

"Alright, Paris," Mrs. Daugherty began, motioning me toward the office. "Let's go over your work plan."

My Morning Routine & Setup

"You'll begin by setting up the studio—lighting, backdrops, camera equipment. This is the foundation. Precision is key, especially with fashion shoots where we need to highlight every detail of the design."

I nodded, taking mental notes. It was basic yet crucial work.

Pre-Shoot Meetings

"Once the studio is ready, you'll be part of the pre-shoot meetings with clients. Pay close attention to what they want—the look, the style, the mood. Communication here is essential. Most of our clients come in with a clear vision, but it's our job to bring that vision to life."

Client Handling

"I'll be introducing you to some of our regulars. You'll learn how to speak their language—metaphorically and literally. Your French will come in handy. Be professional but approachable. That's how we keep clients happy."

On-Set Photography

"Here's where the magic happens. You'll assist our senior photographers during shoots, and soon, you'll be directing models yourself. Don't be afraid to suggest poses, and make sure to work closely with stylists. Fashion photography is a collaborative art form."
