[BWWM]
I was only twelve years old when the world turned cold. The day my mom died in that car accident, I felt like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over my heart.
My dad, who had always been my hero, suddenly became a stranger, filled...
Six months later, life had settled into a blissful routine for Brandon and me. We’d gotten used to being married, and everything felt more natural, more secure.
Our love had deepened, and we were as close as ever. But today was different—I had a secret that I wasn’t sure how to tell him.
I sat on the edge of our bed, staring at the small test in my hand, the two lines clear as day.
Pregnant.
My heart raced with a mix of excitement and nerves. I hadn’t expected it to happen so soon, but now that it had, I couldn’t help but smile. Brandon was going to be a father. We were going to be parents.
I heard the front door open downstairs and the familiar sound of his keys hitting the table. He was home. I took a deep breath, trying to calm the butterflies in my stomach.
“Hey, love, I’m home.” he called from the hallway, his voice light and happy as usual. “Where are you?”
I quickly slipped the test into my pocket and stood up, smoothing my dress.
“In here!” I called back, trying to sound normal, though my heart was still pounding.
He walked into the room with a smile, his eyes lighting up when he saw me. “You okay?” he asked, coming over to give me a kiss on the cheek. “You look a little... off.”
I bit my lip, feeling the nervous energy rise up again. “Actually, I have something to tell you.”
Brandon raised an eyebrow, instantly intrigued. “What is it? You’re not leaving me for Chris Hemsworth, are you?”
I laughed, shaking my head. “No, nothing like that.”
He sat down beside me, taking my hand in his. “Okay, what’s going on?”
I hesitated for a moment, feeling the weight of the moment settle around us. Then, without saying a word, I pulled the test out of my pocket and handed it to him.
His eyes widened as he stared at the test, and for a moment, he didn’t say anything. Then, slowly, a smile spread across his face, the kind of smile that made his whole face light up. “Are you...?”
I nodded, tears already forming in my eyes. “I’m pregnant, Brandon.”
He looked at me, then back at the test, then back at me again, his smile growing wider by the second. “We’re going to have a baby?”
I nodded again, and suddenly, he pulled me into his arms, hugging me tightly. “Oh my Gosh, Athalia, this is amazing! We’re having a baby!”
I laughed through my tears, feeling a mixture of joy and relief. “I know, I can’t believe it either.”
Brandon pulled back to look at me, his eyes shining with excitement. “You’re going to be an amazing mom. I can’t believe this... we’re going to be parents.”
“I was so nervous about telling you.” I admitted, wiping my eyes.
“Nervous? Why?” he asked, his tone soft as he brushed a strand of hair from my face.
“I don’t know. I guess I just... I wasn’t sure how you’d feel.”
“How I’d feel?” He laughed, pulling me close again. “Athalia, this is the best news ever. I’m going to love our baby just like I love you.”
We sat there for a long time, holding each other, both of us trying to wrap our heads around the fact that soon, we’d be bringing a new life into the world.
Brandon placed a gentle hand on my stomach, smiling down at it. “Hey, little one,” he whispered. “I can’t wait to meet you.”
The love and excitement in his voice made my heart swell. This was everything I had ever wanted—our little family, full of love and happiness.
And now, it was only going to get better.
