United We Stand; Divided We Fall

If
"United we stand, divided we fall,"
How successful, I wonder
Might be one who is already all alone?

If the game starts with one piece on the board,
How long until the Black Kingdom falls?
How soon will the White Queen make her move?
What will become of the chessboard when all of the pieces gather in a slain, broken pile?

If
"The enemy
Of my enemy
Is my friend,"
What of my other alliances?
What of these kingdoms, of these warring sides?
If the odds favour one side and not the other,
What is to become of the minorities?

After all, it is she who strikes first who draws first blood.

The White Queen has arisen.
The Battlefield shall be reduced to a torrent of bodies and bloodshed,
And naught more.
