Sister Dear

"I have to leave,"
You said, and I cried
Because how could I go on
Without my best friend by my side?

And so I lay in shambles,
A sobbing heap on the floor
While you gave me one last hug
And retreated out the door.

I tried to call out,
To keep you here,
But I just couldn't keep you,
Sister dear.

Was this all a dream?
Were you truly here with me?
Please, my wounded heart is broken
And lacking a surgical seam.

If you could comfort me one last time
And I could feel your presence near,
Perhaps I can go on without you,
Sister dear.
