Love's Suicide

I feared I wouldn't see you again, and it turns out I was right.
You held that gun to your head
And thus began your plight.

The words they used had harmed you,
Until you lost control
Of all the beauty surrounding you.

You couldn't see that their words were wrong
And that I wanted to help you through
You cut, you purged, you starved
Until you nearly faded away.

The person I had known forever
Was now an empty shell,
For people do not last forever
And your life did not as well.

In the moment when I watched you
As you took the revolver to your head
I feared if I did nothing
The one I knew and loved would be dead.

I tried to talk you out of it,
But you sadly shook your head
"This world is too cruel for me,"
That is what you said.

The gunshot fired an echoing sound
And my whole world spun 'round and 'round
As your body fell
And looked at me, lifeless.

The one that I once knew
Was now dead and gone
But how could I say "I love you,"
If you were buried, six feet underground?

And so that is why I stand here,
Staring at your gravestone
A bouquet of flowers in my hand
And tears flowing freely down my face.

I loved you, I truly did
So why, please tell me
Why did you
Disappear?
