Triumph (Onward to Hope)

And though sometimes she's had heartbreak and pain,
Sometimes--
Oh, sometimes she looks back at her scars and they remind her just how far she has come
And just how much she has endured.
I can and I will,
She whispers to herself,
Remembering that she can in fact do anything she sets her mind to.
Tough sometimes the present feels bleak and grey
And that sometimes she remembers every person who's ever left,
Or every time she's had her heart broken,
Or every time she felt like a caged bird who couldn't stretch out her wings entirely--
She remembers that every day she's lived is one more than the day before.
She creates and pours out her heart into each song she writes,
Or each song she sings,
Or each sketch she so lovingly entrusts to someone else,
Or each story or poem,
Reminding her that sometimes, pain is a good thing.
And some words fill her eyes with happy tears:
Onward, to hope.

And her someone else?
He smiles.
