Are You Still There?

3. Kara

Summary: Kara is devastated about how Lena took the news and is extremely worried about her. The Superfriends try to find Lena.

Kara's whole body felt numb. She thought that if she told Lena she would feel the weights finally lift off of her shoulders. But now, it felt like they were dragging her down into the fiery core of Earth itself.

She heard Lena's sobs, as she hurried down the hall. Had she just lost her wife? She felt like the room was spinning. Was this it? Kara's knees felt weak as she fell to the ground. She had messed up. She had managed to achieve the one thing that she had been trying to avoid for months: She had hurt Lena. She had hurt Lena in the same way that Lex and Lillian had. She had lied to Lena for her own gain. She was no better than they were.

She stayed on the floor, dazed for what felt like an eternity, half expecting Lena to come back through the front door, but she never did. Kara felt hot tears streaming down her face. She needed to stop her thoughts from racing, but how? She reached for her phone in her back pocket. Her hands shook violently as she called the one person who would be able to help her.

Alex came rushing into the loft, ten minutes later with Esme on her hip,

"Oh my god, Kara, are you ok?" she asked, hurrying over to her, not even bothering to close the door behind her.

She fell onto the floor next to Kara and hugged her as tight as possible. Kara could only cry as she hugged her sister. Alex stroked Kara's hair gently, trying to calm her down enough for her to tell them what had happened.

"What's wrong with aunt Kara, Mama?" Esme asked quietly as she gripped onto Alex's shirt sleeve.

"She's just sad, honey." Alex explained, squeezing Esme's hand before turning her attention back to her sister, "What exactly happened? Was she upset? Was she angry?"

"It was so bad, Alex! She was so hurt and- I did that! I hurt my wife! She was so mad and then she left and-..." Kara choked on her own words.

"What do you mean she left??" Alex interrupted.

"She said she needed space and ran out." Kara took some deep breaths, "I'm so scared that she isn't coming back, Alex!" She was starting to feel nauseous from all of the crying she had been doing.

Alex was surprised by the fact that Lena had just run off,

"This is Lena we're talking about. She's definitely going to have some sort of plan, she always does. She can't have gotten far. Plus, she's smart, she isn't going to do anything reckless. I'm sure she's fine." Alex tried to reassure her sister and partially herself too.

"It's ok, aunt Kara, we still love you." Esme said. She climbed onto Kara's lap to comfort her, using her krypotionian-like strength to give Kara a tight hug.

"Thanks, Esme." Kara sniffled, wiping away her tears with the back of her sleeve as she held her niece.

"I'm just going to call the others to let them know what's going on." Alex said, standing up to close the door, before calling the rest of their friends.

After the Superfriends had scoped out National City, they all met back up in the loft and sat around the small coffee table, next to the couch.

"She isn't at work..." J'onn started.

"I checked her penthouse too but she wasn't there either." Nia said.

"She isn't answering any of my calls..." Kara buried her face in her hands as she paced back and forth. She could feel more tears forming in her eyes again. She looked out the window and saw that it was starting to rain. How cliché.

"That's to be expected of someone going through loss like this," Kelly looked at Kara sympathetically, as she held Esme on her lap, "She probably believes that she's lost who she thought was her wife. She's emotional but she won't do anything she wouldn't usually do."

This comforted Kara slightly and got her to stop pacing for a moment.

"Is there anywhere else she might have gone? Someone's house perhaps?" J'onn asked Kara.

"Not that I can think of..." Kara's voice had become a hoarse whisper, as she continued pacing.

"I believe that there's an 85% chance that she's with a close friend or relative. Actually, recalculating... make that 97%." Brainy stated.

"Lena doesn't have any close relatives. She hates Lillian and Lex is in prison... close friends...?"

She paused, her heart pounding. That's when it hit her,

"Sam and Ruby!"
