Summary: Lena runs to Metropolis to clear her head and get away from the drama at home and stay at her old friends' place.

Lena was sat in her private jet on the way to Metropolis. She poured herself some scotch as she sighed and tried to process all of the new information from earlier. Her wife, Kara Danvers, the sweet reporter from CatCo., was the all powerful Supergirl, The Girl of Steel. Her mind raced as she massaged her temples to try to avoid the oncoming headache that she could already feel creeping in from the back of her head. How could sweet, humble, humane Kara be a crime fighting, vigilante alien from another planet?

She leaned her head back into the head-rest of the chair and tried to relax, taking small sips of the scotch. She glanced out of the window at National City from afar. It was so peaceful in the air, no one would ever be able to disturb her here. Well, except for the one person she was trying to get away from: Her wife, Supergirl. She looked down at the rings on her left ring finger. One was a jewelled engagement ring, the other a simple wedding ring. She fiddled with the wedding ring for a moment, spinning it around her finger, before taking it off and admiring the engravings on the inside. "Kara and Lena ~ 2021" was written in the polished silver. Their engagement echoed in her head,

"Out of all of the friends that I have ever had, you have pushed me the most, challenged me the most..." Kara removed her glasses and she quickly wiped her eyes as she sniffled, trying to take a breath.

"Hey, hey it's ok." Lena held Kara by the arms and pulled her into a tight hug.

Kara took a moment to compose herself again, before continuing,

"I have done so many things that I would never have dared to do and I have become a better person because of you, Lena." she took a small step back and held Lena's hands in her own, "You inspire me to always see the best in everyone around me and in every situation around me. I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So, if you will have me..." Kara pulled a small ring box out of her dress pocket, "Lena Kieran Luthor... will you marry me?"

Lena's heart was pounding in her chest. It was so deafening that she almost didn't hear herself answer,

"...Yes!" Lena pulled Kara into a deep kiss, tears forming in her eyes.

They laughed as Kara put the ring on Lena's finger and wiped Lena's tears away with her thumbs, giving her another kiss.

Lena ran her finger over the engraving as tears started filling her vision. She quickly slipped the ring back onto her finger and dried her eyes. That had been the happiest day of her life. It was just her and the person she loved the most: her best friend. It had all been so simple back then. Now, everything had been messed up.

The plane landed shortly after and her driver was waiting outside of the airport for her with the car that he had driven over. Naturally, Lena could have taken the car but she had needed some time to herself, far away from the bustling city, where someone might have recognized her.

They drove for 20 minutes more, before the car pulled into the driveway.

Lena rang the doorbell to Sam and Ruby's house.

Sam rushed to the door, opened it and wrapped her arms around Lena,

"Lena, are you ok??" she asked, seeing Lena's tear-stained face.

Ruby held the door open as Sam brought Lena inside and sat her on their couch.

"It's Kara. She's been lying to me and I don't know what to do-" Lena choked.

"What do you mean? Lying about what?" Sam asked, concerned.

"Kara is... Supergirl..." Lena said, looking at the ground.

Stunned, Sam turned to Ruby,

"Can you get Lena a glass of water, baby?"

"Ok, mom."

Ruby got a glass from the kitchen, filled it up with some cold water and brought it over to her mom.

"Here, chug this." Sam said, handing the glass to Lena.

"Thanks." Lena whispered, taking a small sip.

Ruby sat down next to Lena as she told them about the fight she and Kara had had.

"I've known her for so long and now- I'm just so confused. Why didn't she tell me sooner? She clearly struggled with keeping it a secret! I was so worried about her because she was acting so weirdly but this...? It's just a little more than I can handle right now..." Lena sighed.

"You're more than welcome to stay here with us, Lena. For as long as you need. We've got a guest room upstairs that you can have." Sam smiled.

"Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it." Lena forced a smile.

"Does Kara know you're here?" Ruby asked.

Lena stayed quiet, taking another sip of the water to avoid answering the question.

"Oh Lena." Sam sighed, "Ruby, will you bring Lena to the guest room, help her unpack?"

Ruby nodded and helped Lena carry her bag upstairs.

Once they were gone, Sam grabbed her phone and called Kara, who answered almost instantly.

"Sam?" Sam heard Kara's frantic voice on the other end.

"It's all good, Kara. Lena's with us."

"Oh thank Rao." Kara sighed, "Is she safe? Is she ok?"

"She's a little shaken up but she's fine." Sam reassured her.

"Can I speak to her?"

"I don't think she's in a very chatty mood..."

Kara sighed, "...Just- just take care of her, Sam... please..."

"Of course, Kara. What are friends for?" Sam said and they hung up.

"There's barely anything in here." Ruby said as they unpacked Lena's bag.

"I kind of left in a hurry so I didn't really have time to pack..."

An awkward silence hung in the air.

"Are you and Kara going to get divorced?" Ruby asked Lena as they sat on the bed.

"I- I don't-..." Lena stumbled over her words, "I don't know..."

Ruby gave her a hug.

Sam came up the stairs and leaned in the doorway of the guest room with her arms folded,

"Ruby, don't you still have homework you need to be doing?"

Ruby sighed and got up to leave.

Sam approached Lena slowly,

"So Kara is Supergirl...?" she said, sitting on the bed.

"Yeah I know, my head's kind of spinning..."

They sat in silence for a few moments.

"Are you hungry? Do you want me to get you anything? We could order take-out?"

Lena thought back to the potstickers and donuts that were probably still sitting on the kitchen counter at home.

"Pizza?" Sam suggested, snapping her out of her thoughts again.

Lena looked at the ground, "Just some scotch, please." After the day she'd had, she didn't have much of an appetite.

Sam nodded and gave her a hug, before heading back downstairs.

Lena took her phone out and stared at Kara's profile picture in her contacts. Her finger hovered over the call button for a few seconds before she threw it across the mattress. She fell back onto the bed, silent tears running down her cheeks again.
