After Melissa pointed us toward a nearby market, we made our way there, hoping to find ingredients for original meals back on the ship. But we quickly realized we were missing the basics—stove, pans, utensils, and everything else needed to cook.

"Hey, I think that's it!" Kirishima exclaimed, pointing at a bright neon sign.

"Seriously? Are you kidding me?" Kachan muttered, squinting at the glowing letters.

"What's wrong with it?" Todoroki asked.

"Well..." I hesitated, reading the sign aloud. "'Grand Ichiban.' It means 'Grand Market' in Japanese."

I wanted to explain why that surprised us, but I just said, "It's nothing."

As we approached the entrance, a uniformed officer stopped us. "No pets allowed inside," he said, eyeing Riot.

Kirishima knelt beside him. "Wait here, buddy."

Riot barked once, then padded over to a flower pot and curled up for a nap.

Inside, the market was a sensory overload. Shelves lined with unfamiliar goods, alien produce, and packaged meals filled the space. Some items resembled Earth food—cartons labeled "Milk" came in blue and green hues. I opened one and sniffed. No strange smell, but I doubted it came from cows.

Breakfast bars, vitamin tubes, and canned goods were neatly arranged. But then I saw someone carrying a massive white centipede over their shoulder toward the cashier.

"That's just gross," Kirishima muttered.

"I heard it's a delicacy in some systems," Todoroki replied.

"I'd rather eat rocks," Kachan said, arms crossed.

"Alright, let's split up," I said. "Grab what you need. We'll meet outside."

We scattered. I wandered deeper into the aisles, basket in hand. Before we left the Guild, I'd asked Melissa about food options. Real meat and vegetables were rare—only the wealthy could afford them. Adventurers like us relied on efficiently cultured protein, a synthetic meat substitute. It was pricier than rations, but supposedly tasted great.

I stocked up on non-perishables: breakfast bars, liquid meals in tubes, and freeze-dried ice cream. In the refrigerated section, I found cans labeled Artificial Tiffin.

I remembered the Alien Force episode where Team Ben protected a baby Tiffin from being eaten. Thankfully, this was synthetic.

I tossed six cans into my basket.

At checkout, I ran into Kirishima.

"Oh hey, man," he said, waving.

"Find everything?"

"Yup. Any word from the others?"

"Not yet. Let's wait outside. I'm worried about Riot."

We paid—only 20 Taydens each.
