"Whew!" I sighed, hands on my knees. Kirishima dropped to the ground, exhausted. His body shimmered, reverting to his human form—red hair tousled, black hoodie damp with sweat.
I gave Riot a pat on the head. "Good job, buddy."
Then I offered my hand to Kirishima. He took it, and I pulled him to his feet. We smiled at each other, proud of what we'd just accomplished.
Our attention turned to the two girls we'd rescued. The brunette was helping the pink-skinned girl out of the trash pile, checking her for injuries.
"Are you both okay?" I asked, mostly directing the question to the pink-skinned girl—still too flustered to look the brunette in the eye after our earlier... incident.
"Huh? Oh, we're fine," the pink girl replied, brushing off her arms. Her outfit was... unique. A teal-and-purple camo-patterned sports bra, short-shorts, indigo leggings, and a teal bolero jacket. She looked attractive, sure—but I didn't feel the same spark I'd felt with the brunette.
She looked up at us and added, "But to be honest, I could've taken that guy down."
"Really?" Kirishima said, arms crossed, smirking. "Because I remember you kicking and screaming, 'Let us go, you perverts!'"
He switched to a high-pitched voice to mimic her, and she flushed crimson.
"I... well... you... um..." she stammered, searching for a comeback.
Before she could respond, the brunette placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Come on, Mina. They saved us. We should at least thank them."
Mina puffed her cheeks and turned away in a huff.
The brunette stepped forward and bowed politely. "Sorry about her. Thank you so much for saving us. My name is Ochaco Uraraka."
"Oh, it's um... no big deal," I said, caught off guard by her sincerity. "I couldn't just stand there and watch you get hurt."
She smiled, cheeks flushing pink again.
"I'm Izuku Midoriya," I said, clearing my throat. "And this is Eijiro Kirishima."
"Sup," Kirishima said, waving.
He turned to Mina. "And you, Miss Pink Pout-a-lot?"
"Wha—what didja call me?!" she snapped, spinning around.
Uraraka and I stifled our laughter.
Mina marched up to Kirishima, hands on her hips, face inches from his.
"Let me tell you something, sturdy boy. The name's Mina Ashido. I'm an adventurer, just like Ochaco. We were caught off guard, that's all. I could've taken that brute down with my bare hands."
Kirishima leaned in, smirking. "Oh really? Then you should have no problem pinning down the guy who beat that brute."
"Heh, you've got guts. I like guys with guts," she said, leaning closer. "Think you can take me one-on-one, big boy?"
"Oh, I don't think—I know," Kirishima replied, flashing his sharky grin. "I like a girl with spirit. And you... you've got one hell of a fiery one."
"I'm glad you're liking it. Let's spar sometime. I'll burn your rock-hard body until you cry."
"I'd say bring it on, Pinky."
Uraraka, Riot, and I watched in silence. Riot tilted his head, confused. Uraraka and I exchanged awkward glances.
Their faces were so close, I was pretty sure if someone bumped into them, their lips would touch.
I fake-coughed.
