let out a soft yawn, stretching as I woke up. Blinking groggily, I sat up and rubbed my eyes. When I saw Aaron, my face brightened. "Good morning, Aaron," I said, my voice still sleepy.
But as my words registered, my expression shifted from relaxed to confused. I looked around the room, taking in my unfamiliar surroundings. My gaze then fell on my attire, and I suddenly felt a rush of realization. I was wearing shorts that felt too short, and I quickly pulled the blanket around myself, trying to cover up and regain some semblance of modesty.
"Aaron?" I asked, my voice wavering. "Wait, where am I? What are you doing here?"
Aaron's face showed a mix of concern and awkwardness. "You were really drunk last night at the party. I brought you here because you were in no state to go home alone. The maids helped change you into something more comfortable."
Embarrassment washed over me as the situation sank in. "Oh... I didn't realize," I said, my voice tinged with mortification. "I'm sorry for the trouble."
Aaron nodded, his expression softening. "It's okay. I just wanted to make sure you were safe."
I gave him a small, grateful smile, though I still felt uneasy. "Thank you for looking after me. I appreciate it."
Feeling increasingly uncomfortable, I stood up, wrapping the blanket tighter around myself. "I should go. I need to sort things out."
I quickly headed for the door, my mind a whirlwind of gratitude and confusion. Aaron's voice followed me as I left, but I didn't stop. I needed to be alone to process everything that had happened.
I managed to get home, my mind a whirlwind of emotions. The confusion and embarrassment from the previous night still clung to me as I tried to piece together what had happened.
Next morning
When I arrived at school, I did my best to focus on the day ahead and avoid any unnecessary conversations.
After a couple of classes, I ran into Jamie, a girl from school who had briefly helped me last night. She looked at me with a hint of excitement in her eyes.
"Sophia! You're okay!" Jamie exclaimed, her enthusiasm clear.
I gave her a small smile, "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for checking in."
Jamie's eyes sparkled as she continued, "I saw Aaron last night. He was amazing! He really took care of you."
I raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "Oh? What happened?"
Jamie nodded eagerly. "Well, I saw Aaron step in when that guy was bothering you. He punched him and then carried you out like a hero. It was pretty impressive."
A wave of relief and admiration washed over me at Jamie's words. "Really? I don't remember much after that."
Jamie's eyes twinkled with curiosity. "You know, he was really great. Are you two, like, dating or something? You looked pretty close."
