The next morning, Blythe woke up with having had dreams of home.
As she got dressed for the day, she realized that she had left the necklace that Prim gifted her on the train. It was long gone now.
Blythe headed out to the dining area. Everyone was there, besides Colton.
"Good morning." Effie greeted.
"Morning." Blythe returned the greeting. She sat down to eat. Colton soon joined them.
"So, you'll have the next two and a half days to train before they bring you in for your individual performance." Haymitch started. "I need to know now if either of you want to be mentored individually."
Blythe knew why he was saying that. Sometimes tributes don't want their partner to know what they can do. Blythe and Colton looked at each other before both shaking their heads.
"So, what kind of skills do you two have?" Haymitch asked.
The two were quiet for a moment. Neither of them really had any useful skills.
"Colton can whittle." Blythe piped up. "I'm sure if he needed to, he could fashion his own weapon."
"Well, Blythe is quite skilled at acrobatics." Colton said.
"Yeah, like that's going to help me in the Games." Blythe said.
"You never know." Colton said. "He's right." Haymitch said.
"Save your specific skills for the individual performance. Don't expose them to the other tributes. Spend the training days learning things you don't know."
"Got it." Colton replied.
After they finished eating, the tributes headed down to the Training Center.
"So, where should we start?" Colton asked.
"How about the traps and snares station?" Blythe said.
The instructor showed them how to make traps and snares. Blythe wasn't too bad at it.
After an hour, they decided to move on to the something else. Blythe suggested they try the camouflage station. Colton was impressed at how well she was at camouflaging.
"Peeta and I decorate the cakes at the bakery." Blythe replied.
"Really?" Colton asked. "I thought it was your Mother."
"Nope. Me and Peeta." Blythe said.
"Cool." Colton said.
Soon, everyone stopped for lunch. Lunch was a collection of different foods from all the districts. Blythe explained to Colton all the different breads in each district. She also took the time to assess her competition. The youngest tribute was a thirteen year old boy from District 4. And the oldest was an 18 year old girl from District 9.
After lunch, training continued for a few more hours.
Later that evening, everyone was having dinner. One thing that Blythe had come to love with Capitol food was crème brûlée.
"How was the first day of training?" Cinna broke the silence.
"I think it went well." Colton replied. Blythe nodded in agreement.
As they were heading to their rooms, Blythe stopped Colton.
"I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for all this." She said.
"None of this is your fault, Blythe." Colton said. "None of us have a choice in this. It's just something we have to accept."
"Can I teach you some sign language for the games?" Blythe asked. "Whether we team up or split up, it might come in handy for a way of communicating."
"Sure." Colton replied.
"Do you want to start tonight?" Blythe asked.
"Why not." Colton said. "We don't have a lot of time before the games."
Blythe followed Colton into his room. Blythe had took it upon herself a while ago to teach herself sign language. There was no one around her that was deaf, but it was just something she wanted to learn.
