AN: So, during Blythe's Games, I'll be doing some chapters with Gale's point of view of everything going on with Blythe being part of the Games, while he's in District 12.
Gale and Katniss were out hunting early in the morning.
"Thinking about Blythe?" Katniss asked.
Gale nodded. Of course, he was thinking about Blythe. After her name was called for the reaping, he had wanted to volunteer for the boy that was reaped. He had noticed that her brothers had wanted to as well. But as they all started to walk towards the aisles, they noticed Blythe shaking her head. Telling them not to volunteer.
"You want to talk about it?" Katniss asked.
Gale shook his head.
"I'm sorry she was reaped, Gale." Katniss said.
"I should have volunteered for her." Gale said.
"Why didn't you?" Katniss asked.
"Why would I volunteer when Blythe and I are just friends." Gale said.
"Don't give me that crap. Everyone knows that you and Blythe like each other. " Katniss said. "The only people who don't know you two liked each other are the two of you."
"I started to volunteer. Peeta and Graham too." Gale explained. "But, she stopped us by shaking her head. She didn't want us to volunteer for her."
"I'm sure she's fine." Katniss assured. "She knows more than most of the girls here and she could pick up some skills during training."
"You're right." Gale said. "That was some entrance she and Colton had at the opening ceremony."
"I know, right." Katniss said. "They must have great stylists this year."
Gale nodded.
"The training scores will be announced tonight." Katniss said. "Does your family want to watch them together like we did the opening ceremony?"
"Sure." Gale said. "I'm going to the bakery. Do you want to come with?"
"No, it's okay." Katniss said. "I'll trade the other kills at The Hob."
Gale nodded and made his way to the bakery.
"Good morning, Mr. Mellark." He greeted as he traded the squirrels for bread.
"Gale." Mr. Mellark returned the greeting.
Gale wasn't sure what to say to the Mellark family. In a few short days, their only daughter was being sent to her death.
"I'm sorry." Gale said. "I should have done something."
"I know you care about her. And I know she cares about you too." Mr. Mellark said. "But, there's nothing that you or any of us could have done."
"I could have volunteered." Gale said. "To keep her safe."
"Wouldn't have helped when's she's telling us not to." Graham said as he and Peeta came down the stairs.
Gale nodded as he took what he traded for.
"I'll see you guys at school." He said before heading off. He headed back to house to pick up his brothers for school.
That evening, the Everdeens were at the Hawthorn's house. Soon enough Caesar appeared and he read off the scores for each tribute. As usual and predicted, the Career tributes got high scores. Finally, Blythe was the last one left. Colton's score had been in the middle.
"Blythe Mellark." Caesar announced. "8."
"Not a bad score." Katniss commented. "In the same range as Colton. Not as great as the Career Tributes, not terrible."
Everyone agreed.
