I'm finally publishing my Hogwart Legacy fanfiction. I'm sorry about the quality of the writing and the English mistakes, because it's not my native language and it's really the first time I've written fanfiction ><. I hope it won't interfere with reading.

There was agitation in the Great Hall, following Professor Fig's interruption of the Headmaster.

"Sorry for the delay, but we were diverted by... unforeseen circumstances before we could reach the castle in time. We..."

The old professor was cut off by the headmaster, who was already looking annoyed, and was making little secret of the fact that he wanted to get the evening over with. Black sighed and spoke in an irritated voice.

"Well, well, well! We haven't got all evening to listen to your antics.

- Hum, yes, you're right, we'll see about that later," agreed the old teacher.

Phineas turned to his assistant who was holding the Magic Scissors.

"Do what you have to do, Professor Weasley," he bequeathed the task to his colleague in a haughty tone.

The crowd of students had spread out over four long tables corresponding to the different houses. They were all facing Professor Fig in the company of not one, but two new 5th year students! A boy and a girl. The hubbub intensified and all eyes focused on the two newcomers. The pair were the focus of discussion; no one knew them and most assumed they were Muggle-born. Yet the fact that they had been escorted by Professor Fig and attacked by a dragon, killing a high-ranking Ministry wizard, meant that they were not ordinary. Mystery hovered and crazier and crazier theories spread from table to table.

"Right, you can go... Who would like to go first?" questioned Fig in a gentle tone to the two students.

"Mmmh... being the eldest, I don't mind starting the festivities unless you feel like it?" the boy smiled at his sister.

"No, I'll leave the honour of opening the ball to you," she smiled softly.

Nolan walked confidently towards the stage where Professor Weasley was waiting with the Sorting Hat in his hand. He greeted the teacher quickly and then sat down on the stool. The boy looked around the great hall at all the students staring at him. It was a real pressure, enough to make him swallow his saliva with difficulty, but he turned to a familiar face and Fig's to reassure himself, he kept his composure as he waited for the hat to land on his head.

"AH! A DRAKE! It's been ages since I've seen a young dragon from your family!" exclaimed the Sorting Hat in a strong, healthy voice.

The whole school finally discovered the family's identity, and the gossip grew even louder among the pupils and at the teachers' table. Professor Weasley demanded a lower volume and quiet. Nolan was embarrassed by the reaction of the magic hat, he didn't want his name exposed in this way, discretion was the preferable option. The young man had prepared himself a little for the reaction his name might elicit, as his family had warned him.

"Mmmmh Yes ... I see, great potential ... aligned with a power that's just waiting to be brought out into the open ... which isn't surprising coming from a Drake ... but you'll have to work at it ..." muttered the old magic hat in the midst of his analysis.

"Mmmh difficult to choose a house .... Well, you have many qualities and character traits that make you worthy of each house..." continued the old hat who was still looking for the right house.

"Am I really that difficult?" asked the Drake boy, intrigued by the Sorting Hat's indecision. Nolan had no opinion or preference on the choice of a particular house. What mattered to him was making friends. Even though it took him longer than normal to think about it, the young dragon observed the great hall with its warm and majestic atmosphere. His family didn't want to say too much so as not to spoil the surprise of finding such an impressive and magical school. He couldn't wait to explore the surroundings.

"Mostly I feel you're very divided, but I sense a strength in you ... perhaps Gryffindor ... or not?" hesitated the Sorting Hat, still deep in thought. This wasn't the first Drake he'd met.

Meanwhile, at the Slytherin table, Sebastian Sallow was intrigued by the arrival of the newcomers; he had only heard noises in the corridors, but now he was more than curious. Too bad for him, the boy couldn't see the girl's face as it was hidden by Professor Fig standing next to him. He grumbled and tried to stand up to get a better look at her, but his lifelong friend pulled him to sit back down.

"Raaa I can't see her!" the Slytherin exclaimed in frustration.

"Sebastian... Sit down!" repressed Onimis. "Don't be impatient, once the other one's finished you can watch him quietly.

- But I'm far too curious! Can't you hear me? The others keep saying how beautiful the news is ... and that bloody Chooser is taking too long to make up his mind ...

- I'm blind, not deaf. Yes, I can hear very well what the others are saying about the girl."

Ominis wasn't interested in her beauty. It wasn't that he could judge people by their looks being blind, it was by their actions and behaviour that the Slytherin could define a person.

"Anyway, what's the other Drake like?" asked Ominis.

"Well, he's tall like us, but not as big as me," boasted the brun-haired boy, puffing out his chest slightly. "He's got black hair or not it's funny it looks like he's got slight bluish highlights. Mmmmh according to the others he has violet eyes." Sebastian squinted, hoping to increase his vision.

"... Ok ... And?

- Also, he's got the face of a much too nice guy, in my opinion, in a lost puppy kind of way ... mmmh I expected better, given their spectacular arrival! Like he faced down a dragon without getting a scratch ..." said the brun-haired man, a little disappointed that Nolan didn't have more of the build of an impressive guy capable of slaying dragons over breakfast.

"That's not surprising, given his name...

- What do you mean? Do you know them?" inquired Sebastian as he approached his friend, all ears to listen to the information.

"No, but I've heard some things... but not good things... my family don't like them."

The blind blond spoke in a low voice so as not to share the information with his only friend.

"Mmmh at the same time, he doesn't have many relatives that the Gaunts appreciate ... apart from the 'Great family of blood-pureeeee' of the most respectable.

- Yes, but the Drakes are different...they're traitors to their blood, but...

- But?!" exclaimed the Slytherin loudly, his curiosity aroused, he would have liked his sister Anne to be there, but her fragile health would not allow it.

"I understand that my family is uncomfortable around them... you don't believe me because they're jealous and fearful of them.

- Really?! Why wouldn't I? It's not as if your 'pure-blooded' and 'descended from the great Salazar Slytherin, one of the founders of Hogwarts' bloodline doesn't have something to be envious of. Are they really that bad?

- Shhh! Keep your voice down, you idiot!" The blonde waved his hand at Sebastian to lower his voice, as he didn't want the others to hear them, but he didn't know that Imelda wasn't far away and had a good ear without being noticed. The young woman inwardly mocked her brown comrade for not being more discreet at times.

"Oops, sorry..." apologised the Slytherin, lowering his voice before allowing Ominis to continue.

"Yes ... well ... my family aren't the only ones who fear them, others in the big wizarding houses are afraid of them. I once heard my mother panic when she heard that a cousin family had broken into the Drake Estate and attacked employees thinking themselves superior to them.

My father called them poor fools ... but he wasn't very calm at the same time.

- And what happened after that? "asked the intrigued teenager.

"Well... This affair was kept discreet and didn't appear publicly, or at least it was covered up. Above all, the Ministry made sure that the story didn't get out..." said the blond, thinking back on his memories. In general, he wasn't very fond of his family; his parents behaved as if they were royalty and looked down on the rest of the world as inferior beings. Even for him, as their offspring, he was considered a failure and inferior compared to his siblings. Except for that day, Ominis had never felt fear in his parents.

The Drakes were enigmatic, a family so powerful that they could dominate the world with a dragon army and other powers that could make the Ministries of Magic and the great wizarding families tremble. However, the dragon family did not seek to take control of society or to boast. No, they remained fairly discreet and sometimes preferred to live as modest wizards.

"The Halig family was decimated by dragons," said the boy dryly.

"What?! Seriously, the whole family?" exclaimed his friend, who found the story hard to believe. He had just discovered the existence of a powerful and terrible family hidden by society.

"No, not all of them... The children were spared, but they were cursed as a punishment, making them sterile so that this house would die out forever.

- Well, it's a chilling story...

- So you'll understand that the dragon isn't their family emblem for nothing.
And they don't breed docile creatures. I've heard that the dragons are fiercely protective of their property, and you can only enter by invitation. For many years, they have lived apart from magical society, participating very little in events, or very discreetly. They have almost been forgotten, only the old families know of their existence and are afraid of them, as they are said to have the gift of taming dragons.

- Arg... Dragons... Impressive creatures, but also frightening, so a family with an army, I understand why they're feared, but... how is it possible that this Drake comes from such a terrible family! He's got the face of a lost puppy, for sure, he'll end up at Hufflep...

- SLYTHERIN!!!"

The Slytherin table cheered and howled proudly at the arrival of their new classmate before he sat down at their table. The students from the other houses didn't take too kindly to this and reinforced the dirty rumours about the Drakes.

Nolan was surprised and didn't know what to make of his allocation to the house of the snake, but he had no preconceptions and simply smiled, happy to have a new home. He couldn't wait to visit it, and once at the Slytherin table, the teenager was bombarded with questions from the young first years. But the deputy headmistress firmly called for silence, which quickly fell, as many were once again concentrating on the girl.

The blonde breathed softly, then stepped forward with a confident stride and her head held high. Her gait was worthy of a noblewoman. Her gaze was calm and mature, even though deep inside her, her mind was very uneasy, even agitated. The poor woman wanted to run like hell to get it over with, grab the old hat and shake it so that it would quickly announce her home, but she didn't do anything she really wanted to do.

The new girl arrived in front of the assistant.

"Miss Helena Drake," Professor Weasley greeted and motioned for her to take a seat.

"Thank you Professor Weasley." She bowed her head slightly in greeting and then sat down on the stool to face the students before receiving the Sorting Hat.

"Wow... how about that ..."

Sebastian was like many, impressed and mesmerised by the news. The whispers about her beauty were not unfounded; he was in awe of her presence and angelic splendour.

"What?" asked his friend.

"I must say that her beauty is not false or exaggerated ... I find it hard to believe, but she looks like a princess. She has such a sweet, mature face... that long blonde hair cascades to the front right of her shoulder with a blue ribbon tying it all together towards the end. Those eyes are just as purple as her brother's," Sebastian complimented which made Ominis raise an eyebrow and look disinterested.

"I think she must have veela blood..." the blond supposed.

As soon as the Sorting Hat was above Helena's head, he reacted more calmly.

"Well, well, well, it's been a long time, my friend ... as always, you're a real beauty for a young dragoness, and a creative, intelligent and courageous one at that. Mmmh, Slytherin or Gryffindor?" hesitated the magical hat in deep thought.

"Friend?" Helena tried to comment, but had restrained herself, as this was neither the time nor the place to discuss a sensitive subject.

"Brave? Mmmh, I doubt it to be so, or at least it's not of me.

- Your bravery is just waiting to be awakened. So I sense that you are conflicted ... you want to join your brother but it will do you harm to be too much on your feet despite your duty to look after him ... and the voices of the past that haunt you ...

- I know," she replied softly, still smiling, and looked at the students in the room, then at Nolan, who gave her strength to put her mind in order. She noticed something at the Slytherin table, but was cut off by the cry of the Sorting Hat.

"RAVENCLAW !!!!"

A loud boo echoed from the Slytherins, as the other houses were disappointed with the choice of the Head Boy.

"Pfff! I'm so disappointed ... we only got the brother ... I would have preferred Helena to be in our house ... She could have joined her brother's house."

Sebastian looked away from the man concerned and observed.

"It's not a bad thing that she's in Ravenclaw, it means she'll be smart enough to turn you down and refuse your heavy advances.

- Ominis, you're supposed to be on my side as a friend.

- I feel more like your nanny." The blond Slytherin restrained himself from adding 'in Anne's absence' so as not to depress Sebastian. It also made him feel bad, but at least the Drake story had something to occupy the brunet's mind.

"Not wrong, but you could at least support me.

- Yes, if you want," sighed Ominis, raising his head slightly to the sky.

After the new students had been distributed, the meal resumed with lively discussions despite the fact that the teachers were asking the students to keep it down.

Once dinner was over, the first years began to leave the great hall to go to their dormitories, followed by the other years.

Sebastian and Ominis followed suit until young Sallow met Helena Drake's gaze. He froze, his gaze fixed on her violet eyes. An unusual colour, but so bewitching. She smiled and waved a little 'Hi', shaking her hand gently.

The Slytherin, surprised and hypnotised by the beautiful girl, also waved his hand in response, a little hesitantly and awkwardly.

Helena was surprised and put her hand over her mouth to try and hide her innocent little laugh. Sebastian didn't immediately understand why she was laughing until he realised that Nolan was standing right behind him. The hand signal was not intended for him, and the brown-haired Slytherin felt stupid before Ominis hit his friend with a sudden stop.

"Arg! Sebastian? What's the matter? Why are you suddenly stopping?

- Nothing! Sorry, let's continue!" exclaimed the boy, red with shame. But he couldn't get Helena's sweet face out of his mind.

Notes:

Thank you for reading the first chapter! I hope you enjoyed it despite my terrible writing.
I'd had the HL fanfiction with Nolan and Helena in mind for a while, ever since the game came out, but I never dared publish the first chapter for fear it would be rubbish or too WTF or silly... In short, I've motivated myself to publish so that I can really find out if my fanfiction sucks or if people really like my story.

I was inspired by the Targaryen family from House of the Dragon and many other universes.
Don't hesitate to correct me if you see a huge mistake or tell me what you think in a comment or just give me a shout so I can improve.
I'll try to do some small illustrations of my fanfiction if I have time, but for now I've drawn Helena and Nolan in a parallel world to HL dedicated to Rp.
