They all looked at me with big eyes. "Is my daddy going to die now?" Morgan asked me, crying slightly. "Yes... yes your daddy is going to die, Morgan," I whispered. Then I hugged them again. Before I stood up again and took the door handle in my hand, I looked at all four of them. "Ready?" I asked. They nodded and I opened the door.

Isabella P.O.V.:

It was only when I had fully opened the door that one of the little ones moved. Morgan was the first to enter the room. She saw her father lying in bed and her mother sitting next to him. Pepper hadn't noticed us yet. Morgan turned around and reached out to me. The little one already had tears in her eyes. I gently squeezed her hand briefly. Sophie came into the room after me. The twins had each taken a hand from her. When we were all standing in the room, I saw the others. Steve, Rhodey, Peter and Thor were sitting together in a small seating area. Thor and Steve stood up and left Tony's room.

Morgan pulled me to her mother. "Mom...", she said as we stood next to Pepper. The addressed one raised her head and looked sadly at her daughter. Then she stretched out her arms and Morgan climbed onto her mother's lap. Pepper looked at me again and smiled slightly.

Rhodey had come to me and put her hand on my shoulder. Then he said: "Let me know if anything changes." Apparently the whole team had realized that Tony wouldn't make it. I just nodded briefly, then sat down on the other side of the bed. The twins were standing at the foot of the bed. When I sat down, they came over to me and sat on my lap.

Sophie had sat down next to Peter. The two of them have always had a special bond. Both had tears in their eyes. We all just sat there for hours. At some point Rhodey stuck his head in. "It's late, you should eat something and go to sleep. Especially you, Peter, you've had a lot on your plate in the last few days," he said. Peter was about to speak again, but I just looked at him briefly and he nodded submissively. Sophie hugged the older boy again, then sat alone on the sofa.

The twins had fallen asleep on me by now. I wanted to get up and put them next to their sister. Then she came to my aid and took Lydia from me. We laid her on the sofa. I turned to Pepper and Morgan. They were also asleep by now. I tried not to wake her mom when I lifted Morgan from her lap. But once again I failed miserably. She was startled and I stroked her arm. "It's fine, go back to sleep," I just said.

Sophie had sat down on one of the armchairs. She watched the three little ones sleeping while I was still sitting on the chair. The door opened and Natasha came into the room. She gave me a smile, but it didn't last long. She came over to me and hugged me as best she could. I leaned against her and felt her kiss my head.

Then she went to Sophie and stroked her head briefly. She looked at her mother. Then she stood up and put her arms around her. Natasha lifted her up easily and sat down in the armchair with her on her lap. I could hear Sophie sobbing.

With my head bowed, I turned away from the two of them and turned my gaze back to my best friend. I carefully took his bandaged hand in mine. Many memories came back to me and tears filled my eyes.

I saw the moments we had in the workshop. When he showed me our house by the lake for the first time. How he proudly put Morgan in my arms and told me that I was her godmother. He when he gave me the birth of the twins. He when he told me for the first time that I was like his sister that he didn't have. Me when I called him Tones for the first time and then gave me a warm smile. He watched Lydia take her first steps like a proud father and I filmed the whole thing. Both of us.

A small tear rolled down my cheek. But it flowed like waterfalls from my eyes as my favorite memory came back to me. The two of us, at the edge of the lake. A campfire in front of us. A blanket was around our shoulders, he held me in his arms and I leaned my head against his shoulder. "I love you, little sister"

That was it for me, the tears didn't stop rolling. I was a little startled when someone put their arms around me. "Shh," came the soft voice of Natasha and I calmed down a little. She turned my head so that I had to look at her. Then she said: "Everything will be fine. Do you hear? Everything will be fine! Everything will always be fine." I nodded and smiled slightly even though we both knew that in Tony's case it wasn't true.

"I think it's time we hooked him up," she said. I nodded and she left the room. Only to come back a few minutes later with a heart monitor. Together we hooked Tony up to the machine and as soon as we had turned it on, the steady beeping filled the room. Pepper woke up from the noise.

"What is..." she began, but stopped when she realized that everything was fine. "We've hooked him up to a heart monitor so we can keep a closer eye on him." She nodded. There was a soft knock on the door. Peter stuck his head in. "P, shouldn't you be sleeping?" I asked him.

"I couldn't. None of the others were sleeping either. So I made something to eat," he explained. "Do you want something?" he then asked. "You should go get something to eat," Nat said to me. I nodded briefly and stood up, expecting her to follow me. I looked at her in surprise when she stopped.

"I already ate earlier. Pepper won't leave the room voluntarily and someone should stay with her," she answered my unspoken question. She smiled at me again, then I left the room with Peter. He took me to the kitchen where everyone was sitting. Steve was still eating, the rest just sat there and stared somewhere.

"You're welcome to go to him. He's stable. But be quiet, the children are sleeping," when they heard my voice, everyone jumped. Without a word, Steve left his food and went to the hospital wing. All the others followed him. I sat down on one of the bar stools in front of the stove. Peter put a plate of pasta in front of me. Then he said he had to go to the bathroom and left. I sat there and slowly started to eat. Only now did I realize how hungry I was. I also noticed that I was thirsty and got up to go to the cupboard. There I grabbed a glass and filled it with water.

I was just taking a sip when I heard heavy footsteps. I turned around and was about to take another sip when I saw Steve standing in front of me, out of breath. "Isa...bella...Tony...er," he began to say. I dropped the glass in shock. I quickly ran into the hospital wing, ignoring the pain caused by a piece of glass.

When I got to Tony's room, I saw everyone standing in the room. I immediately went in. The monitor was beeping like crazy. He had ventricular fibrillation. I quickly went to the bed, I wanted to do something, but Natasha put her arms around me. "There's nothing you can do," she said in my ear. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the twins and Sophie looking between me and Tony, crying.

Pepper held his head in her hands. "Go, we can do it. You can rest now," she whispered to him. And as if Tony had been waiting for it, the flickering stopped. The beeping sound turned into a long one. I collapsed screaming.

I was barely aware of my surroundings. The only thing I felt was pain. But not the pain in my foot, but a much deeper, much worse pain. It felt like a part of me was being ripped out, a piece that would be gone forever.

I didn't notice Bruce turning off the monitor or the twins and Morgan climbing onto the bed with Tony and hugging him one last time. I could still hear Sophie sobbing in Peter's chest.

Tony was gone. My best friend, my brother was dead. I couldn't save him.
