The atmosphere at the dining table, after Seokjin’s bombshell revelation, had changed dramatically. No one seemed to be able to stop themselves from asking questions. Even Namjoon, usually the calm and composed one, had his curiosity piqued, while Taehyung, naturally more nosy, had been brimming with excitement ever since Seokjin mentioned the name of his boyfriend—Yoongi.
“So… Yoongi,” Namjoon said, breaking the silence that followed Seokjin’s confession about Yoongi’s age. “Tell us more about him.”
Seokjin shifted in his seat, a bit uncomfortable with the sudden attention on the details of his relationship. “What do you want to know?” he asked cautiously, glancing from Namjoon to his parents, then to Taehyung, whose wide eyes and eager grin betrayed his excitement.
“Well, for starters,” Taehyung said, leaning forward conspiratorially, “how did you two meet? A 20-year-old? That’s like… a decade younger than you!”
Seokjin rolled his eyes. “Thanks for the reminder, Taehyung.”
Ignoring his brother’s teasing, Seokjin paused before answering. He knew that the truth was simple, but it wouldn’t come across that way, especially not to his nosy, imaginative younger brother. “We met through mutual friends,” he began, choosing his words carefully. “He’s… different. Quiet, reserved. He’s not like anyone I’ve ever met.”
“Different how?” Taehyung interjected, his tone laced with suspicion and curiosity. “Like, mysterious or... weird?”
“Mysterious,” Seokjin corrected, though even that didn’t feel like the right word. “He has this calm energy about him. He doesn’t talk much, but when he does, he’s incredibly thoughtful. He has an old soul for someone his age.”
Mrs. Kim smiled softly, clearly pleased that her son had found someone who sounded, at least on the surface, like a good match. “He sounds lovely, dear. We’re so happy that you’re with someone who makes you happy.”
Seokjin smiled back at his mother, grateful for her acceptance. But the moment was short-lived, as Taehyung’s eyes narrowed in suspicion once again.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Taehyung said, waving his hands. “You say he’s quiet, mysterious, and has an old soul… but we haven’t seen or heard anything about this guy. How long have you been dating?”
“About a year,” Seokjin answered calmly.
Taehyung’s jaw dropped. “A year?! And none of us has met him? What, does he live in some secret underground bunker or something?”
Seokjin chuckled, trying to deflect Taehyung’s exaggeration. “He’s just private. He doesn’t like to be the center of attention. You know how I am about keeping things low-key, and Yoongi prefers it that way too. He’s not one for big family gatherings or events.”
Taehyung leaned back in his chair, folding his arms. “Okay, but keeping him hidden for a whole year? Hyung, come on. That’s not just private, that’s suspicious. You didn’t even tell *us* until now.”
Seokjin’s brows furrowed slightly, feeling the pressure of his brother’s words. He could sense Taehyung’s skepticism and knew this conversation was far from over. Namjoon, who had been quietly observing the exchange, leaned in, his voice calm and measured.
“I get wanting privacy,” Namjoon said thoughtfully. “But you have to understand, hyung, that you’ve never kept something this big from us before. I think that’s why we’re all a little surprised. You’re usually an open book with us, and this feels… out of character.”
Seokjin sighed, knowing his brothers were right. He had always been transparent with his family, rarely hiding anything from them. But Yoongi was different. From the very beginning, their relationship had felt special in a way that Seokjin couldn’t quite put into words. It wasn’t just about privacy—it was about protecting what they had. Yoongi’s quiet presence and enigmatic aura drew Seokjin in like nothing he’d ever experienced before, and he wasn’t ready to share that with the world.
