5 Days after the Battle of Coruscant
"Congratulations, Captain Cruz for your promotion to Admiral, and send my congratulations to your brother, Shack for me as well." Chancellor Palpatine says to now Admiral Cruz, medaled for his heroism in the battle of Coruscant.
"Thank you, Chancellor, and I will." Now promoted Admiral Cruz says, standing at attention inside of a speech room full of Republic officers congratulating officers on promotions and heroism medals.
"Now, I would like to speak with you in private in my offices if you have the time." Palpatine says quietly. "It's important."
"I will be there, Chancellor."
Republic Capital
Chancellors office
"So, Admiral, how have the recent 5 years been for you, in the war?" Palpatine asks, entering his seat.
"About as any other officer, lots of grueling conflicts, even with a year of my time spent on Coruscant." Cruz says.
"Hm, interesting, have you grown, at all attached to General Maize over this time? I hear he's part of your task force." Palpatine asks again.
"No, sir. If I may ask, where is this going?" Cruz asks back.
"That is what I was hoping to ease you into. I have sources from inside of the Jedi order that they may be plotting something, I have measures in place in case of an event but I'm... uncertain. I've been told they may make an attempt on my life by next week, I want to know if you will be ready to fight a possible... war, if we call it that, with some of the Jedi Order."
"They'll... make an attempt on your life? Has your source told you why?"
"No, but General Skywalker has been chosen to spy on me, he is loyal, so he has told me himself, but that leaves distrust, distrust that can lead to war. I want to know if you're ready for another possible war." Palpatine asks.
"I will do whatever you say, Chancellor."
"Good, now use this commlink from now on, if I execute order 66, do whatever in your power to execute General Maize." He says, handing him a handheld comm. "Now return to the Liberation and commence general orders, if the time comes, you shall know."
"Of course, sir." Cruz says, exiting the office, Palpatine smirking as he exits.
