Ian McLean is a human teenage boy who likes to hang out with Squidward. Like Squidward, he's considered sassy, introverted, snobby, grumpy, bad-tempered, and sarcastic, but he's not as rude, unhappy, stubborn, egotistical, miserable, apathetic, pessimistic, hypocritical, and sometimes sadistic as Squidward.
Sometime after Elliott came in, Ian and several other humans also arrived, all claiming to be fleeing someone or something, but none of them had any recollection of what happened before. Ian made a strong bond with Squidward due to their shared love for art and music, but unlike Squidward, he usually ignores SpongeBob, Elliott, Billy, and Patrick, and their childish escapades.
