Kageyama walks behind Hinata as he trudges up the stairs to their apartment, making sure the omega doesn't fall or stumble. He knows Hinata is upset by the news of Sunada's death because his scent has soured and his demeanor is defeated. But Kageyama can't exactly understand why Hinata is bothered by the news.
Kageyama is thrilled that asshole Sunada is gone. It may make him a bad person, practically celebrating someone's death, but he doesn't care. That monster abused Hinata, so he deserves to rot in hell. And the fact he went there sooner rather than later? Oh well. He brought it on himself with alcohol and drugs.
No, Kageyama doesn't feel one tiny bit bad.
But Hinata does for some reason, and Kageyama wants to be supportive, even if he doesn't understand.
When they reach the apartment, Hinata immediately heads to his room to change clothes, and Kageyama does the same. They come out of their respective rooms at around the same time, and Kageyama again feels that undeniable smugness that Hinata is wearing his clothes.
"I was thinking of cooking, but then I thought, pizza sounds better. Is that okay?"
"Oh, yeah, that's great," Hinata responds without his usual pizza enthusiasm.
"Go sit down and put your feet up. The doctor said to not be on your feet too much or your ankles will swell."
Hinata peers at him strangely for a moment, then agrees. Kageyama can't figure out that look that Hinata sends his way regularly. He feels like he should understand it, or at least be able to decode it, to perceive what Hinata is thinking. But so far, he's been unable to. He guesses he'll keep trying. Or else, maybe ask someday.
He calls into the living room, "Pizza will be here within thirty minutes. I'm going to do some laundry and cleaning. Do you have your feet up?"
"Yes, Bossy-Yama, my feet are up."
Kageyama throws in a load of laundry and folds another load. He puts away the dishes from the strainer and wipes down the refrigerator handles since it's flu season and he doesn't want Hinata to get sick. He can't help but stop and study the ultrasound image once again, cataloging the ways the baby resembles Hinata. He wonders if they'll have red hair and big amber eyes. They'd be so cute, just like their momma.
His phone buzzes to indicate the pizza is almost there, so he's saved from his embarrassing thoughts. He tosses the rag into the laundry and heads down the stairs to meet the delivery person. He comes back up and enters the living room to an adorable sight.
Hinata is asleep on the sofa with his head resting on the back and his feet propped up on the coffee table. He's got one hand on Kageyama's cat, Mikeneko, who is lying on his belly, apparently sleeping as well.
