she sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the darkness outside the window. The thought of escape had been creeping closer lately, whispering that a permanent solution would end the pain once and for all. It would be easy—quiet, final.

But then, her little sister's laughter echoed from the other room, reminding her why she hadn’t done it yet. She was too young to understand, too innocent to know the weight her older sister carried.

For her, she stayed. Because this was a temporary storm, and her sister needed her to be there when it finally passed.
