SIX

As the group prepared to go their separate ways, you felt a gentle nudge on your shoulder. Turning around, you found Dazai standing there with a warm, inviting smile. "Do you want to come back to my place, Belladonna?" he asked.

From a distance, Nikolai had just finished saying goodbye to Sigma and was now approaching you. He had planned to visit your house again to spend more time with you and catch up with your grandmother. But it seemed Dazai's invitation had taken precedence.

You shook your head apologetically. "I'm sorry, Dazai. I'm a bit tired. Maybe tomorrow?" you said, offering him a gentle smile.

Dazai's pout was playful yet sincere. "Of course, of course! It was a pleasure meeting you today. I'll see you at work, yeah?" He waved as he flagged down a cab.

With Dazai on his way, you turned to Nikolai. "Want to see Ama, or are you heading home too?" you asked.

Nikolai's heart fluttered slightly at the thought of visiting your grandmother. He cleared his throat, returning to his usual energetic demeanor. "Ah, I like how you're so loyal, dove! Of course, I'd love to see your sweet grandma!" He draped his arm over your shoulder, his cheerfulness shining through.

Together, you walked back to your house, Nikolai's presence lightening the mood. Despite the day's events, his enthusiasm and affection were a comforting reminder of the friendships you were building, both new and old.

As you and Nikolai walked together down the quiet street, the day's events replayed in your mind. Nikolai, ever the curious and lively companion, couldn't contain his curiosity. He glanced sideways at you with a mischievous smile. "Hey dove, do you ever fly? Why do you walk so often?"

You looked at him, a hint of amusement in your eyes. "Of course, I fly. It's just that I prefer walking. Flying around makes me stand out too much, like a big bird in the sky. It's less conspicuous."

Nikolai's eyes widened with intrigue, and he chuckled softly. "I see, you're all about keeping a low profile. But I bet you'd still look stunning up there, soaring through the clouds." He placed a hand dramatically on his chest as if declaring his admiration.

You snorted, rolling your eyes playfully. "What's with the sudden compliment, huh? Trying to butter me up?"

Nikolai's cheeks tinged pink, and he waved his hand dismissively, though his blush betrayed him. "Ah, it's just the truth! You're a sight to behold, whether you're walking or flying. But don't read too much into it, it's just how I see things."

Despite his lighthearted tone, you could sense that there was something more to his words. You watched as he tried to maintain his usual cool demeanor, though his embarrassment was evident. You could tell that there was a mix of genuine admiration and a subtle hint of something else in his reaction.
