quick reminder that this art isn't mine"Stay with your grandma!" a woman shouted at three-year-old you. The elderly woman behind you held you close, but you didn't understand why your mother was yelling. Her face was twisted with anger, and she aggressively threw your belongings into your grandmother's house.
"I can't stand looking at this kid anymore!" your mother screamed again, making you flinch. Trembling with fear, you couldn't comprehend why she was so upset. Sniffling, your cheeks flushed bright pink as tears streamed down your face. You reached out your arms towards your mother, desperate for comfort, but the anger in her eyes only deepened your sense of confusion and sadness.
"Ma-ma! No!" you cried out, your tiny arms reaching for her as she refused to even glance back. She turned away, closing the door behind her. You wondered why she was leaving. Wasn't she just going out for groceries like she often did? She always said she'd be back soon, but this time, she stayed away longer than usual. Maybe it was normal for her to be gone like this. In your young mind, you clung to the hope that she would return, just as she always did before.
As your mother slammed the door shut, the sound echoed in your ears. Your grandmother looked down at you, attempting to smile as she held you close. But you noticed something else—she was crying. Confused, you wondered if she was sad because your mother was leaving too. Maybe she was feeling the same sadness you were...
Your grandma also had wings, just like you! You felt her wings envelop you in a warm, familiar embrace, just like the hugs she always gave. But this time, something felt different. The warmth of her hug felt tinged with sadness. You looked up at her, hugging her back tightly and wrapping your tiny wings around her in an effort to comfort her. Despite your young age, you tried your best to ease her sorrow, sharing the comfort and warmth that her hugs had always given you.Although you couldn't help but ask, you looked up at your grandma and asked, "Grandma, why is Mama leaving?" Grandma looked at you with teary eyes and sniffed slightly. Despite your innocent gaze, she managed a small smile. "She's... going to be away for a while, Y/N," she said gently.
You weren't particularly surprised by her response. Grandma often said this, as Mama was frequently away. Since Mama was often gone, Grandma had taken care of you the most, and you had grown accustomed to her comforting presence in Mama's absence.
"Yeah, she's probably going to be back tomorrow!" you said, trying to reassure her. You reached up and gently wiped her tears with your small hand, determined to comfort her. Seeing your effort, her sadness softened, and she managed a genuine smile. She pulled you close again, her warmth and embrace providing the comfort you both needed in that moment.
