(On the screen, Riley stares out the bus window. The bus is pulling out; nearby the depot is the highway leading to Bay Bridge, which leads out of San Francisco with no turning back.)

Disgust: Joy, you got to fix this. Get out there.

Joy: Sadness, it's up to you.

Sadness: Me?

All: Sadness?!

Sadness: I can't, Joy.

Joy: Yes you can. Riley needs you.

(Sadness is surprised; Joy nods in affirmation The bus is exiting the parking lot; Realizing her true purpose, Sadness walks over to the console. The console is almost completely black.)

Sadness: Okay...

(Resisting a bit, she puts her hands on the bulb; the other emotions watch with worry and anticipation. All of the controls stop working and the console is completely black now. The bus pulls out onto the road into the direction of the highway. Sadness then does her thing and twists the bulb, successfully unscrewing it and turning it off. The console's blackness retracts, reactivating the controls, and the bulb rises and pops out.)

(Outside, feeling comes back to Riley as she realizes what she is doing. She gets out of her seat.)

Riley: Wait, stop! I wanna get off!

(The bus stops just before the highway entrance and Riley jumps off and runs away. Joy and the emotions are surprised; Riley continues running down the sidewalk back home.)

Mrs. Andersen: Alright, thank you, we will. Her teacher hasn't even seen Riley all day!

Mr. Andersen: What? I can't believe this.

Mrs. Andersen: What was she wearing last? Do you even remember what--

[The door opens. Riley walks in. They rush over to her.]

Mrs. Andersen: Riley!

Mr. Andersen: Riley, there you are! Thank goodness!

Mrs. Andersen: Oh, we were worried sick! Where have you been? It's so late...

(Riley, what happened? Are you alright?)

(In Headquarters, Joy decides it's time for Sadness to do her stuff. Without hesitation, she gives her the Core Memories, Sadness scoops them up, and they all turn blue. One by one, Sadness places each memory in the recall unit. Then, she placed her hand on the console. It turns BLUE. For the first time, Riiley cries.]

Riley: I know you don't want me to, but, I miss home. I miss Minnesota. You need me to be happy. But, I want my old friends and hockey team. I wanna go home. Please don't be mad.

Mrs. Andersen: Oh, sweetie.

Mr. Andersen: We're not mad. You know what? I miss Minnesota, too. I miss the woods where we took hikes.

Mrs. Andersen: And the backyard where you used to play.

Mr. Andersen: Spring Lake, where you learned to skate. Come here.

(Riley embraces her parents in a tearful hug; in Headquarters, Joy presents one last present for Sadness: The sad Core Memory. But Sadness has an even better idea -- she brings Joy over to the console, and they press a button together, making it glow both yellow and blue. This causes Riley, while still letting it out, to smile slightly.)

(Joy and Sadness watch; a ding is heard as from behind the screen, a new Core Memory comes out, never before seen: it is half yellow, half blue. It sinks into the floor and rolls to the Core Memory pedestal, shooting out a beam of light to the mind world, creating a brand new Family Island outside. It resembles the original one, but with various San Francisco landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge.)

(The Emotions are astounded at this new mixed emotion Core Memory; as the Andersen family continues to embrace each other, Joy and Sadness observe, side by side. They are now a team.)
