"I originally did it to reassure you, but now I feel I can't keep hiding it from you. Wu Weihao isn't a man you can rely on," Yan Keyu said apologetically.

"No... I don't believe it." Qin Peiyi shook her head, her face pale.

"It's true, Peiyi. Wu Weihao is a jerk. He doesn't deserve how good you are to him," Yan Keyu earnestly tried to persuade her friend.

"Stop it," Qin Peiyi's voice trembled. "Keyu, I really value our regained friendship, but if you keep criticizing Weihao, it'll be hard for us to stay friends."

"Peiyi, a guy like him will only make you suffer if you marry him. I'm telling you the truth because I care about our friendship." Yan Keyu sighed sadly. "Even if it makes you mad, I have to say it: Wu Weihao isn't a reliable partner."

"Enough! I don't want to hear it anymore." Qin Peiyi suddenly stood up, choking up, "I know you've always resented me for Weihao choosing me over you, but I didn't expect you to be so manipulative, making up lies to deceive me now."

"Peiyi, I'm not lying to you. How could I lie to you? I've always considered you my best friend," Yan Keyu said, her voice pained.

Qin Peiyi's lips trembled as she shook her head, "You say you wouldn't lie to me? But weren't you lying when you said Tao Jiajin was your boyfriend?"

"That's— that's different. I had my reasons, and I told you about them."

"Your reason was just to show off in front of me. Deep down, you never accepted me being with Wu Weihao."

"It's not like that, really." Yan Keyu anxiously wanted Qin Peiyi to understand her sincerity. "Peiyi, listen to me—"

"Don't say anything else. I think we don't need to stay in touch anymore." Qin Peiyi cut her off and walked away.

Watching her leave, Yan Keyu's eyes filled with tears of sadness.

At that moment, she realized that some things, once cracked, couldn't be mended no matter how hard you tried.

After her meeting with Qin Peiyi, Yan Keyu returned home, feeling lost, and was immediately called out.

"Sister-in-law." Zhu Yatong approached her from the living room.

Yan Keyu stopped. It was her first time facing her sister-in-law alone. Compared to her height, Zhu Yatong was petite and delicate, her beautiful features evoking sympathy and affection, which explained why both Tao brothers had initially liked her.

"Sister-in-law, is there something you need?" Yan Keyu responded politely.

"Nothing much, I just haven't had the chance to chat with you properly. I'm sorry about that," Zhu Yatong said kindly.

"It's alright." Yan Keyu let down her guard a bit and smiled.

"I made some Earl Grey tea. Would you like to join me?" Zhu Yatong invited her.

"Sure." Yan Keyu agreed happily without thinking much.

They sat on the sofa, and Zhu Yatong placed a cup of tea on the table in front of her, sipping her own.

"Did... Jiajin ever tell you about us?" Zhu Yatong asked after putting down her cup.

Yan Keyu paused and then forced a stiff smile, "He did, but I know that's all in the past now, and I don't mind."

"What if it's not in the past?" Zhu Yatong added.

Yan Keyu's smile faded, "Then it needs to be put in the past now."
