One Month Later
Sam stood in front of the mirror, his hands unconsciously rubbing his still-flat stomach. It felt surreal, knowing there was already a tiny life growing inside him, even if he couldn't feel it yet. A miracle they had longed for had finally arrived. A second chance.
Last week they were dissappointed that the test came out negative but this morning, the doctor had confirmed. Sam was officially pregnant. When they both heard the news, Zach had practically leapt out of his seat, hugging Sam so tightly that the nurse had to remind them to calm down.
After further tests and making sure that eveyrthing was fine, they left the clinic glowing—hands intertwined, hearts full, and smiles they couldn't shake off. It was so good to be true, it almost felt like they were dreaming. Even when Sam arrived home, he couldn't but smile as he looked at the mirror in awe.
"What is it?" Zach asked softly, stepping behind Sam and wrapping his arms around him. He kissed the side of Sam's neck, resting his chin on his shoulder. His voice was as awe as Sam.
"You've been quiet." he added.
"Nothing," Sam said, smiling faintly. "I just can't believe I'm pregnant again. Last time... I was more afraid of you finding out than appreciating this gift."
Zach's arms tightened, remembering what had happened in the past.
"I'm sorry about that," he whispered. The guilt was still there, even if Sam had forgiven him long ago. "Things could have been different if we had just talked properly. I should have known..." he continued. Since he was the one who secretly made Sam take the drug, he should have taken precautions and when Sam started acting weird, he should have connected the dots sooner.
"Silly, it's okay," Sam replied, turning around in his arms. "It's all in the past now. What matters is... we get another chance. I get to be a mom again."
Zach smiled, eyes glassy with emotion. "You're going to be amazing. Just look how you raised the twins. They're perfect."
Sam chuckled. "Ah, I bet the twins are going to be even more excited than we are. They've been begging for a younger sibling since the day we got back together." Back then he wasn't sure if they were going to be able to have another child, but here they are. Pregnant.
"Oh, they'll scream," Zach laughed. "Mom and Dad, too. They'd be thrilled." He paused, thinking. Then his face lit up.
"Hey, how about we host a family dinner tonight? We can announce it properly and celebrate together. I mean, this is huge. Us... getting pregnant again? We need to mark this moment." Zach suggested excitedly. Since this is a good news, he wants to let everyone know.
Sam nodded immediately. "That sounds perfect. The twins are still at school, so they'll be surprised when they come home too."
"I'll get everything ready." Zach kissed him on the lips, once, twice, thrice... "This is the best day of my life." he added before kissing again for the fourth time and finally deciding he was done... for now.
Later that evening, after picking up the twins from school, the guests began arriving one by one. And just like Allen and Alex when they got back, some close friends and family arrived with furrowed brows and cautious smiles, clearly wondering if something had gone wrong.
Zach and Sam reassured them all, offering drinks and laughter to ease the tension and eventually calmed down.
By the time everyone had arrived and dinner was served, the mood had completely shifted. Plates clinked, chatter filled the air, and the cozy house glowed with warmth. Then, just as dessert was being served, Zach stood from his chair and gently tapped his glass with a spoon, catching everyone's attention.
