POV: Maya

With every word, every whisper, Loki made me feel seen. He saw potential in me that no one else did-not even Natasha. There was power within me, he said, power that SHIELD and Natasha kept me from realizing. And he was right. I could feel it stirring within me, a force that had been dormant for too long. I began to trust him, to believe that he was guiding me to become what I was meant to be.

---

Loki sat across from me in his cell, his eyes never leaving mine. It was as if he could see right into my soul, beyond the fear and uncertainty that plagued me. His voice was a soft murmur, like the hiss of a serpent. "They have always feared you, Maya. Do you know why?"

I shook my head, my hands clasped tightly in my lap. "Because I'm... not like Natasha. I'm not strong."

"No," he corrected, a small smile playing on his lips. "Not because you aren't strong. Because you are. Because they sensed the power within you even before you did."

I looked away, staring at the cold metal bars that separated us. "You're wrong. They always said I was weak, that I needed more training, more discipline."

"Words," Loki dismissed with a wave of his hand. "Words meant to keep you under control, to keep you doubting yourself. They knew what you could become if you were allowed to truly see yourself."

I felt a lump rise in my throat. Could it be true? Had they kept me in the dark all this time because they were afraid of what I could do? "I don't understand," I said, my voice shaky. "What power?"

Loki leaned forward, his eyes glinting with something I couldn't quite place. "You have a gift, Maya. A power that goes beyond the physical. It is in your very being, something ancient and unyielding. The Red Room tried to suppress it. SHIELD tried to control it. But it is yours and yours alone."

"You're just trying to manipulate me," I said, though the words lacked conviction. "How do I know this isn't just another one of your lies?"

He tilted his head, his gaze softening in a way that made my heart skip. "Why would I lie about this? What could I possibly gain from it? I have no use for a puppet. I seek a partner, someone who can stand by my side, not in my shadow."

---

His words echoed in my mind. For so long, I had been the shadow, the lesser. Could it be true that there was something more within me? "You say there's power," I said slowly. "But I don't feel it. I've never felt it."

"That's because you've been conditioned to suppress it," Loki replied calmly. "Conditioned to believe you are less than what you are. But deep down, you have felt it. In those moments of doubt, in the quiet of the night, when the world around you feels wrong-haven't you felt a stir within you, something clawing to break free?"

I swallowed hard, memories flashing through my mind. The nights when I lay awake, feeling a restless energy thrumming beneath my skin. The times during training when, in the heat of battle, I felt a surge of something raw and untamed, only to have it squashed by a stern look from an instructor or a scolding from Natasha.

"Yes," I admitted, my voice barely a whisper. "But I thought it was just... anger, frustration."

Loki's smile widened, and there was a gleam of triumph in his eyes. "It's more than that, Maya. It is your true self, fighting against the chains they have bound you with. You are not weak. You are not a shadow. You are fire, and they have spent your entire life dousing you with water to keep you from burning too brightly."

I felt a rush of something inside me-hope, fear, anger-all mixing together into a whirlwind. "But what if... what if they're right? What if I'm not meant for this power?"

"Then you live the rest of your life in chains," Loki said simply. "Forever wondering what you could have been if you had only dared to break free."

---

I stood up, pacing the small space outside his cell. My heart pounded in my chest. "And you... you'd help me? To understand this power, to control it?"

"Not control," Loki corrected smoothly. "Embrace. Control is what they want for you. They want you to be a tool, a weapon they can wield. But your power is not meant to be controlled. It is meant to be unleashed."

"Unleashed," I repeated, tasting the word on my tongue. It was terrifying, the thought of letting go, of allowing myself to become something that had always been hidden away. But it was also... exhilarating.

He watched me carefully, his eyes never leaving my face. "You are not alone in this, Maya. I know what it is like to be feared for what you could become, to have those around you try to mold you into their image. But you and I, we are not meant to be molded. We are meant to shape the world around us."

I stopped pacing, turning to face him. "And what do you get out of this? Out of helping me?"

Loki leaned back, his expression inscrutable. "A partner. Someone who understands what it is to be more than what they were told to be. I offer you freedom, Maya. Not servitude."

I searched his eyes for the lie, for the manipulation that Natasha and SHIELD always warned me about. But all I saw was a reflection of my own doubts and fears, my own longing for something more. "And if I say no?" I asked, my voice trembling. "If I choose to stay in my chains?"

"Then that is your choice," he said calmly. "But remember this moment, Maya. Remember the taste of what could have been, and ask yourself if you are willing to live with that regret."

I felt a tear slip down my cheek. It was too much-too many emotions, too many questions. But deep inside, I felt that stir again, the flicker of something that had always been there, waiting to be ignited.

"Show me," I said finally, my voice barely above a whisper. "Show me this power you speak of."

Loki's eyes gleamed, his expression one of satisfaction. "In time," he murmured. "All in time, my dear. For now, you must understand what it means to let go of the past. Only then can you embrace what lies within you."

I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. For the first time in my life, I felt like I was standing at the edge of something vast and terrifying, and all I had to do was take that step forward. And with Loki guiding me, it didn't feel as frightening as it once had.
