**POV:** Maya
Fenrir giggles as Loki swings him into the air, his tiny hands outstretched toward the sky. His laughter fills the courtyard, a sound that melts my heart. I watch them from the side, sitting on a stone bench with a gentle smile on my lips. The way Loki interacts with our son is nothing short of magical. There's a certain tenderness in his movements, a softness that I've come to cherish deeply.
"Higher, Da-da!" Fenrir squeals, his eyes wide with delight as Loki tosses him again, catching him effortlessly.
"Careful," I call out, a hint of concern lacing my voice. "Don't go too high."
Loki glances over at me, a smirk playing on his lips. "Worry not, love. He is perfectly safe in my hands."
I nod, though my heart still skips a beat each time Fenrir soars through the air. Loki is right, of course. He is always so sure, so in control. I watch as he brings Fenrir back down, cradling him against his chest.
Loki turns towards me, walking over with Fenrir nestled in his arms. "You worry too much," he says, his tone teasing.
"I can't help it," I reply, reaching out to touch Fenrir's rosy cheek. "He's so precious to us."
Loki's gaze shifts to me, and for a moment, there's an intensity in his eyes that makes my breath catch. "Yes," he murmurs. "He is. And so are you."
I look down, feeling a blush creep up my cheeks. Even after everything, Loki has a way of making me feel like I'm the center of his world. "We're a family," I say softly. "We have to protect each other."
He shifts Fenrir to one arm, freeing his other hand to cup my chin. He lifts my face, forcing me to meet his gaze. "I will protect you both," he says, his voice low and filled with a possessiveness that both reassures and unsettles me. "You and Fenrir are mine."
I swallow, nodding slightly. "I know," I whisper. "I trust you."
His eyes flicker with something dark and deep. "Good," he murmurs, his thumb brushing over my cheek. "Because I won't let anything or anyone come between us. Ever."
A shiver runs through me at his words. They're meant to comfort, and in a way, they do. But there's an underlying edge to them, a warning that lingers in the air. I push the thought away, reminding myself that Loki's protectiveness comes from love. His past has made him this way—guarded, fierce, unwilling to lose what he holds dear.
"Why don't we go inside?" I suggest, needing a change of pace. "Fenrir could use a nap."
Loki's eyes linger on me for a moment longer before he nods. "Very well," he agrees. "Let's go."
We make our way back to the palace, Fenrir now resting his head on Loki's shoulder, his eyes drooping with the onset of sleep. I walk beside them, feeling the warmth of Loki's presence like a shield around us. It's always like this, as if he's creating a barrier between our family and the rest of the world.
Inside, the grand hall is bathed in the soft light of the afternoon. Loki carries Fenrir up the stairs while I follow. In our chambers, he gently lays Fenrir down in his crib, pulling the blanket up to his chin. For a moment, we both stand there, watching our son drift into sleep.
"He looks so peaceful," I say quietly.
Loki wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me close. "He is," he replies. "As he should be. This is his sanctuary."
I lean into him, feeling the familiar strength of his hold. "And ours," I add. "Our sanctuary."
"Exactly," Loki whispers into my ear. "No one can touch us here. No one can take this from us."
I nod, believing every word. With Loki by my side, I feel invincible. I turn to face him, resting my hands on his chest. "You're always so certain," I say softly.
He gazes down at me, his expression unreadable. "Certainty is a necessity, Maya," he says. "It is what keeps us strong. Keeps us safe."
I study his face, the sharp lines softened by the dim light. "I love you," I murmur, my voice barely a whisper.
His grip tightens around me. "And I love you," he responds, his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that sends a thrill through me. "More than you can ever know."
I close my eyes, letting his words wash over me. In moments like this, the world feels small and simple. Just the three of us, bound together by a love that defies everything else.
Loki leans down, his lips brushing against mine in a kiss that is both possessive and tender. I melt into him, losing myself in the familiarity of his touch. When he pulls back, his gaze is still fixed on me, unwavering.
"Promise me something," he says, his voice low and demanding.
"What is it?" I ask, my heart pounding.
"Promise me you'll never doubt us," he murmurs. "Never doubt what we have."
"I promise," I reply without hesitation. "I could never doubt you, Loki."
A smile tugs at the corner of his lips. "Good," he says, cupping my face in his hands. "Because you and Fenrir are everything to me. And I will do whatever it takes to keep us together."
I nod, feeling a surge of emotion. "I know you will," I whisper. "And I'm here, always."
He kisses me again, deeper this time, as if sealing our vows in this quiet room. When he finally pulls away, he rests his forehead against mine. We stand there for a moment, wrapped in each other, the world outside fading into nothingness.
After a while, I step back, glancing at Fenrir's crib. "He's fast asleep," I note, a soft smile on my lips.
Loki follows my gaze, his eyes softening as he looks at our son. "Yes," he agrees. "He is our future, Maya. Our legacy."
I move to sit on the edge of the bed, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over me. "Sometimes, it feels overwhelming," I admit. "This responsibility we have."
Loki crosses the room, sitting beside me. He takes my hand in his, threading our fingers together. "That's why we do this together," he says. "You're not alone in this, love. We carry this weight as one."
I rest my head on his shoulder, finding comfort in his words. "I know," I murmur. "And I'm grateful for that."
He lifts our joined hands, pressing a kiss to the back of my hand. "As am I," he whispers. "Never forget, Maya—you are mine, and I am yours. That will never change."
A sense of security settles over me, warm and reassuring. "I'll never forget," I promise, closing my eyes.
Loki's arm wraps around me, holding me close. "Good," he murmurs. "Then rest now. We have all the time in the world."
I let his words lull me into a state of calm, my thoughts drifting away as I surrender to the quiet embrace of our sanctuary. In this moment, with Loki's arms around me and Fenrir sleeping peacefully nearby, everything feels exactly as it should be.
We are a family. And nothing will ever break us.
