**POV:** Loki
The Asgardian council chamber is vast and echoing, filled with murmurs as the council members settle into their seats. I glance at Maya, standing beside me, cradling Fenrir in her arms. Her gaze is steady, but I can sense the nervous energy rolling off her. I place a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"They're just men, Maya," I murmur. "Men who need to be reminded of what truly matters."
She nods, drawing in a deep breath. "It's just... they look at him like he's a threat."
I smile slightly. "That's because they fear what they do not understand. We will make them understand."
Odin rises, commanding the attention of the room. His gaze sweeps over us, lingering on Fenrir. "Loki, Maya," he begins, his voice measured, "you stand before this council to discuss the future of Asgard... and your son."
Maya tenses, and I gently squeeze her shoulder. "Indeed," I reply smoothly, stepping forward slightly. "Fenrir is not just our son; he is the embodiment of a new era, a bridge between realms. Asgard has much to gain from his existence."
"And what of the prophecies?" a council member interjects, his voice filled with skepticism. "The tales that speak of a child born to bring chaos?"
Maya's eyes widen slightly, and she glances at me, uncertainty flickering in her gaze. I step closer to her, placing a hand over hers, grounding her. "Prophecies," I say calmly, "are nothing more than words written by those who fear change. Fenrir is a child of love, not destruction."
Odin narrows his eyes. "You ask us to believe that a child born of your union will bring peace, not peril?"
Maya takes a shaky breath, her voice soft but firm. "He is innocent. He is our hope. If we raise him with love, how can he be anything but a force for good?"
There's a moment of silence in the chamber, a charged stillness. I can feel the tension in Maya, the way she clutches Fenrir just a little tighter. I need to turn this around.
"He will grow under our guidance," I continue, my voice echoing through the hall. "He will learn the ways of Asgard, its history, its honor. He will be taught to respect this realm and protect it. That is our vow to you."
"And if he strays from this path?" Odin challenges, his gaze piercing.
Maya opens her mouth, but I speak before she can, my voice cold and unwavering. "Then he will answer to us, as will we to this council. But he deserves a chance to prove himself. We all do."
Odin's eyes linger on me for a long moment before shifting to Maya. His gaze softens slightly as he looks at Fenrir. "The child shall remain in Asgard," he decrees finally. "But his upbringing will be closely monitored. We will not allow the mistakes of the past to repeat themselves."
"Of course," I reply smoothly, inclining my head in a show of respect. "You will see that there is nothing to fear."
Odin nods, dismissing us with a wave of his hand. The council begins to disperse, their expressions a mixture of wariness and begrudging acceptance.
Maya exhales slowly, looking at me with wide eyes. "Did we... did we succeed?"
I turn to her, a small smile playing on my lips. "Yes," I say quietly. "This is the beginning. They may not trust us fully, but they have given us a chance."
Her eyes shine with relief. "I was so scared," she admits. "The way they looked at him... at us."
I cup her cheek, tilting her face up to meet my gaze. "They are blinded by fear and ignorance," I say gently. "But we will show them. Fenrir will grow to be a force for good. They will see."
She nods, her eyes softening as she looks down at our son. "He's our hope, Loki. He has to be."
"He will be," I assure her, my voice firm. "But for now, let's take him home. He needs his rest, and so do you."
As we walk through the palace halls back to our chambers, Maya remains quiet, her thoughts seemingly elsewhere. I watch her out of the corner of my eye, noting the way she cradles Fenrir protectively. She is already so devoted to him, willing to fight the world for our son. It is precisely what I need her to be.
Once we're in the privacy of our chambers, Maya lays Fenrir in his crib, brushing her fingers gently over his tiny forehead. "He looks so peaceful," she whispers.
"Because he is safe," I reply, moving behind her and placing my hands on her shoulders. "And he will always be, as long as we stand together."
She leans back against me, her tension slowly easing. "I believe that," she says softly. "I believe in us, in what we're building."
"Good," I murmur, resting my chin on her shoulder. "Because there will be challenges ahead. But we will face them as a family. They will not break us."
She turns her head to look at me, her eyes searching mine. "You promise?"
I hold her gaze, allowing a rare softness to enter my eyes. "I promise, Maya. You and Fenrir are my life now. Everything I do is for our family."
She smiles, her eyes shining with unshed tears. "I love you, Loki," she whispers.
"And I love you," I reply, brushing a gentle kiss against her lips. "Now, rest. You've done more than enough for today."
She nods, turning back to watch Fenrir for a moment longer before moving to the bed. I follow her, watching as she settles under the covers. Her eyes close, her breathing evening out as sleep claims her.
I stand there for a moment, watching her. The manipulation is complete. She is bound to me, not through chains, but through her belief in our love and our future. She will never question, never stray, because she sees me as her protector, the father of her child, her partner in this journey.
I move to Fenrir's crib, looking down at him. His eyes flutter open, gazing up at me with a curiosity that belies his age. "You, my son," I murmur softly, "are the key to everything."
I reach down, placing a gentle hand on his chest, feeling the steady rise and fall of his breaths. "You will grow strong," I continue quietly. "And together, we will reshape this realm. You will be feared, respected. But for now, sleep. There is much to do."
I straighten, looking back at Maya. She sleeps soundly, a small smile on her lips. I move to the bed, slipping in beside her, wrapping an arm around her waist. She unconsciously leans into me, a content sigh escaping her lips.
Yes, everything is as it should be. The pieces are in place, and now, it is only a matter of time.
