Thy Temptation

Shall I refrain from thy tempting bonnie,
Like an ocean, so comely, yet so deep?
A rose in green, with thorns that pierce deadly,
That leaves my slumber restless, in my sleep.

Thy bonnie is a truth, a siren's call,
But I will not falter, though my heart yearns,
For thou art dangerous, a careless thrall,
I know thee well, even before we've learned.

Yet, I fall not into thy tempting spell,
For I am careful, vigilant, and strong,
Though love for thee, a fiery, fleeting well,
My heart has given, and it's gone for long.

This rapturous day, thou art no longer here,
My core is free, and seeks the bright dawn clear.
