KNOCK KNOCK.

"You may enter," a calm voice said from behind the heavy wooden door.

I pushed it open and stepped inside, closing it softly behind me. The room smelled like old books and polished leather. Mr. Deren sat behind his desk, looking as composed as ever, his eyes barely glancing up from the papers in front of him.

"What brings you to my office, Jamie?" His voice was always so measured, so controlled. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time.

I walked closer, standing tall but trying to keep my face neutral. "I'm here to ask about... the ENA mission you're sending me and the other Operatives on."

His fingers paused, just for a second, before he folded his hands on top of the desk. "What do you wish to know?"

"You informed us that we wouldn't be handling this mission alone," I said, feeling the tension coil tighter in my chest. "The team... we've all grown curious about who we'll be working with."

He exhaled slowly, almost like he was amused. "Mhm. So that's what's been gnawing at you, huh?"

His response set my nerves on edge. "If you're able to give us an answer, we'd appreciate it."

I noticed the faintest smirk touch his lips before he leaned back in his chair, fingers drumming on the armrest. "You know them well, Jamie. The Superiors."

My heart skipped a beat. That name was enough to make anyone feel a knot in their stomach. But for us, for this mission?

"...f-from... Y... YUI?" My voice wavered, and I hated that it did.

"Yes," he said, as if it were the most casual thing in the world. "Them."

The Superiors. Those Superiors. My mind was racing, thoughts colliding with each other. My pulse quickened, and suddenly, the room felt ten degrees colder. "But... sir..." I started, trying to piece together the right words, but he cut me off before I could finish.
