Yesterdays

I lost my heart to distant yesterdays,

When I was still a child, full of innocence,

Untouched by life's sharp blows,

Surviving without a mask or pretense.

Those were the times when we cared less,

About making a career or succeeding in life,

Instead, we followed the footsteps of life's smooth flow,

Unaware its edges concealed knives.

Knives that cut deeper than just a wound,

Drawing you to battle, with nothing left to lose,

All hope, all dreams, dissipate to dust,

Leaving you with life or death to choose.

And I envelop myself in nostalgia's embrace,

Wishing to rush back to those carefree days,

With nothing to worry, nothing to regret,

Where I could be a child each day.
