Remy was the first to wake up, slowly stretching under the blankets. She glanced over at Drea, who was still fast asleep, one arm draped protectively over their daughter, Brielle, who was nestled between them. Remy smiled to herself, feeling a wave of love wash over her. Her life had changed so much, and she wouldn't trade it for the world.
Quietly, Remy slipped out of bed, trying not to disturb Drea or Brielle. She tiptoed to the bathroom, splashed some water on her face, and pulled her hair into a loose ponytail. When she returned to the bedroom, Drea was stirring awake, her eyes fluttering open as she let out a sleepy yawn.
"Mornin', babe," Drea mumbled, her voice thick with sleep as she carefully pulled Brielle closer to her chest. "What time is it?"
"Almost 8," Remy whispered, walking back to the bed. She leaned down and kissed Drea's forehead, then Brielle's soft baby cheeks. "I was gonna let you sleep in, but seems like someone's already up."
Drea chuckled softly, running a hand through her messy hair. "She was stirring a bit. Guess she wanted to be part of the morning squad."
Remy sat down on the edge of the bed, watching as Brielle's tiny hands grasped at Drea's shirt, her little mouth making sucking noises. "I think she's hungry."
"Again?" Drea laughed, shifting Brielle so she could start feeding her. "This girl eats like she's in a marathon."
"She's your daughter, for sure," Remy teased, raising an eyebrow.
Drea shot her a playful glare, smiling through her tiredness. "Says the woman who orders two full meals whenever we go out."
Remy shrugged, grinning. "What can I say? I like options."
They both laughed softly, their easy banter filling the room. These little moments, full of light teasing and quiet smiles, were what made their life together so special. Even in the chaos of new parenthood, they found ways to laugh and enjoy each other's company.
Once Brielle finished feeding, Drea burped her and gently rocked her back to sleep. "You know, I think we've finally figured this whole baby thing out," Drea said, looking proud.
Remy nodded, smiling. "Yeah, we're getting the hang of it. Not too bad for two exhausted moms."
Drea laughed, carefully placing Brielle in her bassinet by the bed. "We should celebrate surviving the first few weeks. Maybe a nice dinner or—oh, I know! We can do something fun today."
"Fun?" Remy raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What kind of fun are we talking about?"
Drea sat up, her face lighting up with excitement. "Like, let's have a day just for us. Brielle's been good with naps lately, and we can bring her along in the stroller. We'll grab some coffee, take a walk in the park, maybe hit up a food truck."
Remy's eyes widened with interest. "That actually sounds like a perfect day. I'm in."
Within the hour, they were dressed and ready to head out. Remy wore her usual casual outfit—ripped jeans, a loose T-shirt, and sneakers—while Drea opted for a flowy sundress and sandals. Brielle was snug in her stroller, a tiny hat on her head to shield her from the sun.
As they walked through the neighborhood, hand in hand, Remy couldn't help but feel a deep sense of contentment. The sun was warm, but there was a light breeze, and the streets were quiet. Drea swung their hands playfully, glancing over at Remy with a grin.
"You know what I miss?" Drea said out of nowhere, her voice light and teasing.
"What's that?" Remy asked, squeezing her hand.
"Date nights. Like, real ones. The kind where we get dressed up and go out somewhere fancy. Remember that place you took me to for our anniversary? The one with the tiny portions but the food was so good."
Remy laughed, nodding. "Yeah, I remember. You almost made the waiter bring out more bread because the portions were so small."
Drea giggled, nudging Remy with her shoulder. "Hey, don't judge me. A girl's gotta eat."
"No judgment," Remy said, smirking. "I loved that night. We should do it again sometime—maybe get a babysitter for Brielle and have a real night out."
Drea's eyes lit up at the suggestion. "Yes! A proper date night. I'm holding you to that," she said, grinning. "But for now, I'm happy with our little family date."
As they walked, they found a cozy coffee shop with outdoor seating. Drea picked out a table while Remy went inside to order. When she came back, she had two iced lattes and a chocolate croissant, knowing it was Drea's favorite.
"Surprise," Remy said, handing over the croissant with a playful wink.
Drea's face lit up. "You know the way to my heart," she teased, breaking off a piece and popping it in her mouth. "Mmm, so good. Want some?"
Remy shook her head. "Nah, that's all you, babe."
They sat there for a while, sipping their coffee, laughing, and watching Brielle peacefully nap in her stroller. The world around them felt distant, like they were in their own little bubble of happiness.
"So," Remy said after a few quiet moments, "what's the plan for the rest of the day, Miss 'Let's Have Fun'?"
Drea thought for a second, tapping her finger on her chin. "How about we head to the park? It's such a nice day, and Brielle could use some fresh air too."
"Sounds good to me," Remy agreed, standing up and pushing the stroller as they made their way toward the park.
The park was perfect—green lawns, tall trees, and plenty of families enjoying the afternoon sun. They found a nice spot under a shady tree and spread out a blanket. Remy lay back, her hands behind her head, while Drea sat beside Brielle, who was awake now, looking around with wide, curious eyes.
Drea leaned over and kissed Remy's cheek. "I love days like this."
Remy smiled up at her. "Me too. I love spending time with you and Brielle. It's like...everything just feels right."
Drea nodded, reaching over to take Remy's hand. "You know what's crazy? I never thought life could be this good. Like, I knew I'd be happy with you, but now...with Brielle? It's more than I ever imagined."
Remy squeezed her hand, feeling a swell of emotion. "I feel the same way. We've got something really special."
They spent the rest of the afternoon just relaxing, talking, and playing with Brielle. At one point, Drea pulled out her phone and snapped a picture of Remy holding Brielle, both of them laughing as Brielle reached up to grab Remy's nose.
"Look at my girls," Drea said, smiling down at the photo. "This one's going on the fridge."
By the time they headed home, the sun was beginning to set, casting a golden glow over the city. Remy and Drea walked close together, with Remy pushing the stroller and Drea's arm wrapped around her waist.
As they reached their house, Drea glanced up at Remy, her face glowing with happiness. "Today was perfect. I needed this."
Remy smiled, leaning down to kiss her softly. "Me too, babe. Every day with you and Brielle is perfect."
With that, they headed inside, ready to wind down and end their perfect day the same way it had started—together, as a family.
