Jay was confused. One second he was talking to some random interns in the surprisingly quiet east side wing, and the next second he was getting punched in the face.
It still hurt. What was that guy's arm made of? Metal?
Actually, wait.
He was made of metal, wasn't he?
Jay sighed. His memory was getting worse by the second. Maybe that was why he couldn't quite remember his past. All he knew when he woke up in The Administration was that his name was Jay Walker.
And now he was tied up in an intricately made tangle of ropes, inside a...living room? He studied his surroundings. There were some throw blankets strewn across the couches and chairs, as well as a few pillows. The room seemed to consist of sturdy oak beams and floors, so it was probably a commissioned building— actual wood wasn't common in regular houses.
There was a mug of what seemed to be water, with steam still pouring out of it, so someone had been here recently. A few random scrolls (?) and blueprints littered with complicated designs were scattered on a small coffee table.
An inventor or engineer was probably living here.
He'd have to note that down for later— maybe chat with them about the designs or recruit them for The Administration?
His thoughts were interrupted when a group of people walked in.
'Rainbow colored pajamas are an interesting fashion statement,'
He mused.
The group regarded him silently for a moment. Jay stared back at them awkwardly. Normally, he'd already have wiggled and cut his way out of the ropes that were binding him as of now, but it seemed as though they knew what they were doing.
He coughed.
"Soo. What's with your color-coordinated pajamas?"
The one in red frowned.
"Hey, watch your mouth."
Jay shrugged.
"You weren't smart enough to have duct tape at the ready."
Someone snorted in the group.
Jay grinned internally. Good. He had to get them comfortable if he wanted to escape.
Someone else snickered— a short one with an impromptu mask made out of a trash bag stuffed over her head.
The red guy slapped them over the head, causing them to yelp and hiss something Jay would've never heard if not for The Administration.
"Shut up, Kai."
Jay smiled.
'That was easy.'
A name only in the first thirty seconds of this weird silent standoff.
"So, Kai."
The group went silent and tense.
"Could you tell me where I am?"
Now their attention was focused on him. They looked a hint confused, a bit scared. Maybe even angry. The one with a mole on her cheek was staring at him, so hard it was almost as though she were staring a hole straight through his face.
"Oh, and maybe tell me your names. I'd prefer not to call you all pajama people any more."
