SEVEN | innocence unmasked

"EXCITING ISN'T IT, TO HEAR SOMETHING ONE ISN'T SUPPOSED TO HEAR."

Rhaena did not answer, but her body jumped from the unexpected sound. Her arm hit hard against the furniture she had crammed herself into. Seven hells...

Was this voice talking to her?

It was not a voice she had heard speaking to her brother earlier. All those men had left the room with him. If she could just stay hidden... who knows how dangerous this person is, if he hides in the dark?

The humorous voice laughed, a sound reminiscent to the ringing of bells. Bells could be a good omen or a bad one, ringing for weddings as for disasters. Suddenly a smell came to her, a sort of perfume or oil. She got a good noseful of the scent and it immediately gave her a headache. This was not like the light flower aroma's the Ladies of the court like to wear for special occasions. This was more pungent and demanding. It filled her nostrils and did nothing to help the nausea she had felt earlier this evening.

The shuffling of shoes against the marble floors distracted her. It revealed where in the chamber the man was.

She had to listen. Focus.

Rhaena startled when he moved further. It came from across the room but in the dark the man was impossible to spot. At least Rhaena thought it was a man, his voice was lower than a woman's but with a thick foreign accent. Man or woman, Rhaena had a bad feeling about this. Her heart was racing in her chest and she clenched the handkerchief.

"Do not fret, my dear, I am not a threat to fliesss on the wall."

Rhaena held her breath. The steps did not seem to go towards her direction or that of the door she say close by. Maybe this man was no threat to her? But which man hid in the shadows of an empty chamber? Was he waiting for someone else?

"In fact, I quite like to do business with insectsss. If you ever come in contact with a piece of information like this, you may alwaysssssshare it with me."

Information?

"Who are you?" Rhaena dared to say, trying to hold her voice steady and confident. She was not to let her fear show. The handkerchief of Ser Arthur was clenched in her fist, she hoped it could be a talisman of bravery and protection.
