Giles shivered as the creature drew nearer. "Wha- who are you?" The monster replied by throwing back its head and letting out a terrible laugh. "An old friend..." Its voice was rough and papery and sounded like it hadn't spoken in a long time;it was crackly, like an old radio with bad signal. "Now, I kno-know  we can fi-figure this out..." Giles backed up and realised he had reached the wall. The thing raised its knife but then a different expression crossed its face. It was worry, anger, and confusion. A pained cry echoed around the room and Giles thought it was him until he realised it was the monster. As it continued to wail and screech, the moster seemed to start to shrink. Suddenly it stopped screaming. It had stopped shrinking- it was about the same size as the confused watcher. Its face and body started to morph into something more human... but before it could be identified, it fled. It had the speed of a thousand cheetahs and left behind nothing but rubble and dust. The monster had escaped.

And the one person who had seen it had no memories of it at all.
