The following day, Sunny and Lucy Gray had remained hidden for the most part. Except for one point where Sunny stepped out of the barricade and walked into the center of the arena, looking towards the cameras.
You sent them a bunch of bread and cheese. The drones were somewhat more successful this time with actually delivering the food. However, they destroyed themselves merely seconds after.
Coral and a few of her own allies were watching him as he did this, not making a move. She had killed Lamina earlier and threw her off of the beam she was originally residing on top of. Not too long after, she even stabbed one of her own allies. Despite being one to seize the opportunity and attack, she merely kept staring. You wondered if it was because of what he had done to Jessup or were they just planning something else for later?
Sunny didn't spare them a single glance before he had retreated back to the barricade.
The camera panned back to Lucy Gray in their hiding spot. Her back was towards the camera, fumbling with something. When Sunny returned with the food, she turned to reveal that she was holding a bottle of water.
"Need help opening it?" He asks her.
She laughs, an offended look on her face. "I ain't that weak yet. I got it."
He echoed her laugh, putting his hands up. "Sorry, sorry."
She placed the water back down, selecting a chunk of cheese to eat while Sunny whispered a quiet prayer to himself. They ate in silence, scarfing down the little nourishment they were allowed to have in there. The sounds of chewing was all the audio was able to pick up. Sunny appeared content from the food. He outstretched his arm, picking up the water to take a sip.
"No!" Lucy Gray says, snatching the bottle from his hand just before his lips could touch it.
Sunny raised an eyebrow, confusion evident on his features. "What's the matter, Lucy Gray?"
"We need to- to save this water until we absolutely need it. Until one of our mentors send us somethin' else." Lucy Gray insists, setting the glass bottle back down.
Sunny appeared as if he didn't buy it but nods, not questioning it. He puts his arm around her as he continues to eat his designated portion of the food.
More spectators were in the studio today, students from the academy, university, along with their parents had come to watch what was presumed to be the final day of the games. Tensions within the arena were gradually rising between the remaining tributes, but it was unclear who would strike first.
Tigris was one of the many individuals who had accompanied their family members or friends who were mentors to support them. To your surprise, your parents never showed up. You had wondered why and were considering asking if you could ring home to see what they were doing.
"Lucy Gray, they're coming." Sunny suddenly states, picking his trident off the ground as he stood up.
Lucy Gray stood up as well, standing behind him as she watched him peak out. "Who?"
"Coral and her friends," Sunny answers her quietly. He turns back to look at her. "You need to run."
"We need to stick together-"
"I'm not leaving you, Lucy Gray. I just want to slow them down. Go."
Lucy Gray clearly didn't approve the idea of separating even if it was momentary. She whips her head around, trying to come up with a better solution out of this. Her eyes settled on the ceiling above that included the entrance to a ventilation duct.
"Wait, look." She says, gesturing to the one above them.
Sunny sees it and considered it for a moment before agreeing. "I'll help you up."
