(TW: Alcohol, arguments)

The clock blinked 3:43 am, the phone casting a soft glow in the dark living room where Johnnie sat hunched over his laptop. The clatter of keys was interrupted by the rattling of the door. It swung open with a slight thud and a burst of cold night air went inside, unceremoniously announcing Jessica's arrival. The scent of whiskey was on her as she stumbled over the floor, laughter fading away the moment she saw Johnnie.
"Oh, look who's still awake!" she slurred, her cheerful facade faltering into a frown.
"Jessica, you're drunk again," Johnnie replied, pushing his chair back and rubbing the bridge of his nose in frustration. "What time is it? You said you'd be home before midnight."
She ignored his question and vent on about her own stuff "Just because I'm out having a good time doesn't mean I should come home to this!" she snapped, gesturing wildly at the clutter of cameras and notebooks scattered throughout the living room. A half-finished edited video paused on the computer screen. He'd been sitting here working for hours, his mind buried in the algorithm and engagement metrics that dictated his world."You never spend time with me anymore! You're always glued to that stupid screen."
"Jessica..." Johnnie sighed, trying to keep his voice calm. "I'm working. You know that. I need to put content out there regularly if I want to keep this job."
She waved her hand nonchalant, knocking over a stack of papers in the process. "Your channel? Your videos? What about us? When was the last time we did something fun together?"
Johnnie stood up, feeling his patience wear thin. "We used to go out on weekends! Why am I suddenly the bad guy here? It isn't my fault you choose to go out drinking with your friends instead of spending time with me!"
"You're so self-centered! It's like you don't care about me!" Jessica screamed out, her voice trembling with emotion.
Just then, the bedroom door creaked open, and Jake emerged, hair disheveled and eyes sleepy. "What on earth is going on out here?" He rubbed his forehead, trying to process the chaos.
"Nothing," Jessica shot back. "Just a typical night where Johnnie pretends he has no time for his girlfriend because he's busy being a star!"
"It's not pretending," Johnnie argued, feeling the heat rise in his chest. "I've invested too much time and effort into my channel to just stop now! That's what I want to do with my life. I am just trying to make a better life for us."
"Better? Is this how you think a better life looks? Because I don't want this!" she shouted, the alcohol fueling her anger. "Maybe I don't want to be with someone who prioritizes a screen over a relationship!"
Jake stepped fully into the living area, now awake and focused. "Look, Jess, I get that you're upset, but Johnnie is working hard for a reason. He's passionate about his channel, and if you can't see that—"
"Stay out of this, Jake!" she snapped, her eyes narrowing at him. "This is between Johnnie and me!"
Johnnie ran a hand through his hair, feeling overwhelmed. "No, Jake is right. I can't ignore my dreams, Jessica. I thought you wanted to support me, but all you do is make me feel guilty."
"Support you?" she laughed harshly. "Support is not watching you waste all your time while I sit here alone! I'm done waiting for you to decide if I'm worth your time. You clearly don't care enough!"
His heart sank as the weight of her words landed squarely on him. "What are you saying?"
"I'm saying this isn't working anymore. I can't be with someone who prioritizes a YouTube channel over me." Her voice trembled slightly, but she stood her ground. "I'm breaking up with you, Johnnie."
The world felt like it was crashing down around him, the reality of her words settling in. "You can't be serious... Jess, please..."
She shook her head, tears starting to form inside of her eyes. "I am serious. I need someone who is here, who cares enough to make me a priority. Goodbye, Johnnie."
And with that, she turned and stormed toward the door, slamming it behind her. The sound echoed painfully in the silence that followed.
Jake stood there, his expression a mix of sympathy and frustration. "Man, I'm sorry."
Johnnie's heart felt like it had been ripped out. "I didn't want it to end like this. I thought she would understand... I thought..."
Jake put a comforting hand on Johnnie's shoulder. "You've got to focus on yourself, too. It sounds like you both need some time apart."
But all Johnnie could do was nod, the weight of the evening pressing heavily on him. "I just lost her."
"Let's get your mind off things," Jake suggested, trying to lighten the mood. "How about we order some pizza and just hang out?"
Johnnie managed a small smile through the pain. "Jake is 3am"
Jake thought for a minute before he spoke again. "Okay, what about i make some pizza and you can keep working on your video." Jake smiled at Johnnie, Johnnie did his best to smile back. He took his computer and sat down on the coutch.
