CHAPTER 3
°• The Locked Cabin •°
|| 12:00 pm ||
The corridor of the Midnight Express was eerily silent, the hum of the train's engine the only noise cutting through the stillness. Yoongi moved with quiet precision as he approached the victim's cabin, his sharp eyes scanning every inch of the scene. Dressed in his usual all-black attire, the subtle light from the cabin window caught the angles of his face, making him look like a shadow moving in and out of focus. There was an intensity to the way he worked, a silent poetry in the way his fingers brushed over the lock, his brow furrowed in concentration.
Yoongi knelt by the door, examining it with such care it was as if he could hear the wood speak. The atmosphere felt thick, almost as though the walls themselves were holding their breath, waiting for him to discover something. His eyes, dark and serious, flickered over to the lock, his mind working through every possible scenario.
He sighed, running a hand through his tousled hair, which only made him look even more captivating in the dim light. "Locked from the inside," he murmured, his voice low and thoughtful. "Which means..." He trailed off, his gaze lifting to meet Namjoon's across the room.
Namjoon's eyes widened slightly, realization dawning on his face. "The killer couldn't have left through the door. It's impossible."
Yoongi nodded, his lips pressing into a thin line. "Unless they know a trick we don't."
Meanwhile, Jungkook sat in front of his laptop, his eyes glued to the screen. His handsome features were illuminated by the blue glow of the footage he was scrubbing through. He leaned forward, his fingers dancing across the keyboard with practiced ease, as if the machine was an extension of himself. His concentration was magnetic, the way his lips would twitch into a slight smirk whenever he uncovered a new detail.
"Guys," Jungkook's voice cut through the silence, his tone serious yet calm. He didn't look away from the screen as he spoke, his hair falling into his eyes, but he didn't bother to brush it aside-too focused on the task at hand. "I've got something."
Everyone gathered around him, their curiosity piqued.
Jungkook played the footage, his fingers moving with a grace that seemed almost effortless, his eyes narrowing in on the footage. "There," he said, pointing at the screen. "Right before the murder. See that shadow? Just near the victim's door."
Namjoon leaned in, his expression tense. The footage showed a fleeting figure-barely a silhouette-moving stealthily near the victim's cabin.
"But look," Jungkook continued, his voice laced with a mix of suspense and intrigue. "The figure disappears... without opening the door. It's like they just vanished into thin air."
A cold chill settled over the team as they realized what they were dealing with.
"The killer," Namjoon murmured, eyes narrowing as the weight of the situation hit him, "is still on this train. Watching us."
