CHAPTER 6
● The Publisher’s Secret ●
The dim light of late afternoon filtered through the curtains of their study, casting long shadows across the cluttered desk. The team sat in tense silence, the gravity of their discovery hanging in the air like a storm cloud waiting to break. Minho's final manuscript lay open in front of them, its cryptic lines unraveling into a truth that none of them had expected.Yoongi leaned over the book, his sharp eyes scanning the pages, every word weighed carefully. His fingers drummed lightly on the table as he turned another page, uncovering more of the puzzle they were piecing together. His voice was low, laced with a quiet intensity as he spoke.
"There’s a chapter here—chapter twelve. Minho was laying it all out. He wasn’t just writing fiction—he was describing real events, corruption in the publishing world." Yoongi's eyes gleamed with a mixture of triumph and disbelief. "This isn’t just a novel. This is an exposé."
Namjoon, standing by the window, paused in his pacing. His thoughtful gaze turned toward Yoongi. "Real events? You’re saying the publisher was involved in illegal activities, and Minho was using his book to expose it?"
"Exactly." Yoongi tapped the page with the back of his hand. "Look at the details—he’s talking about bribery, insider trading, and something bigger. This chapter... it’s almost like a mirror to what’s really happening in that world."
The room was heavy with the realization. Minho had been sitting on a powder keg of information, and his book had been the spark.
Taehyung, who had been quietly analyzing the manuscript's literary references, spoke up, his deep voice thoughtful. "The symbolism in his earlier works points to someone fighting against a shadow force. I thought it was just abstract, metaphorical, but now I think he was hinting at this all along."
Jungkook, sitting beside Yoongi with his laptop open, nodded. "I hacked into the publisher’s accounts. There are irregularities, hidden transactions, shady partnerships. It’s like they were laundering money through the company."
Hoseok, who had been sitting silently, suddenly spoke up, a mix of disbelief and humor in his tone. "So Minho was writing his magnum opus, and instead of just being a bestseller, it was about to blow the lid off the entire publishing world?"
"Exactly," Yoongi replied. "But they knew. The publisher must have known. That’s why they were trying to stop him."
Meanwhile, Jin found himself in an unexpected situation. The team had sent him undercover to a literary event hosted by Minho’s publishing house, with the hope of gathering intel. His mission was simple: blend in, listen to the chatter, and see if he could find out anything about the publisher’s dirty dealings.
Dressed in an overly pretentious tweed jacket and fake round glasses, Jin played the role of a pompous literary critic to perfection—or so he thought. He walked into the event with exaggerated confidence, mingling with the crowd of intellectuals and critics, trying his best to look serious as he sipped on an espresso.
