CHAPTER 10
● The Closing Chapter ●
The office was finally quiet, the team leaning back in their chairs, savoring the satisfaction of a job well done. For the first time in days, the air was light. Conversations were soft, the clink of coffee mugs echoing in the room as they shared small, victorious smiles. But then, Yoongi’s phone buzzed — a single vibration that shattered the fragile peace. He glanced at the screen, and the calm in his face vanished.
"Namjoon," Yoongi said, his voice cutting through the noise like a sharp blade. Namjoon, who had been in the middle of a laugh, froze.
"What is it?"
Yoongi’s fingers tapped the phone as his eyes narrowed. "I just got word from a source — Minho’s assistant. She’s not clean."
Namjoon’s eyes widened, a mix of disbelief and realization dawning on his face. "What do you mean?"
Yoongi leaned forward, his voice low but filled with urgency. "She’s been working with the syndicate all along. It wasn’t just about silencing Minho — it was about taking over. She’s been pulling strings behind the scenes, making sure the publishing house fell into her hands after Minho’s death."
Jungkook, who had been standing by the window, turned sharply. "Are you saying we’ve had a traitor in front of us this whole time?"
"Exactly," Yoongi replied. "We thought it was just the syndicate trying to cover up their crimes, but she’s been playing both sides. And now… she’s making her move."
Namjoon’s mind raced, his thoughts spiraling back to every encounter with the assistant — the way she had seemed too cooperative, too eager to help. "She’s been feeding us breadcrumbs," he murmured, piecing the puzzle together in his head. "Leading us just far enough to solve the murder, but not to uncover her real plan."
Yoongi’s face was grim. "She was using Minho’s death to gain control of the publishing house, and once she had it, she’d continue laundering money through it. The manuscript was only the tip of the iceberg."
Jin, sitting in the corner with wide eyes, let out a low whistle. "Damn, she’s more devious than I gave her credit for."
Jungkook crossed his arms, his jaw clenched. "So what now? We let her slip through our fingers?"
Namjoon’s eyes flashed with determination. "Not a chance. We’re going after her."
The team moved swiftly, leaving the office and spilling into the busy streets as the night began to settle in. The sky was a deep indigo, the stars barely visible through the city’s glowing lights. Namjoon and Yoongi led the charge, their eyes focused and determined, while Jungkook and Jimin followed closely behind.
"She’s heading towards the publishing house," Yoongi called out, scanning his phone for the last known location of her car. "She thinks she’s in the clear. She’s going to collect the keys to her empire."
