Danielle
I was still stuck in the hospital room with Haerin's eyes keeping me tranced. I could feel her in my veins, my soul, and whole being. I don't know if that was some type of power or that's just my doing.
Her bright gold eyes were beautiful, and it almost felt forbidden to like them. "I want to talk, that's all." She said softly, her fangs slowly disappearing, the small black veins erasing, and her golden eyes becoming hazel once more. "I'm sorry if I scared you." No, you terrified me!
"I can't sense your emotions like I normally would to anyone else, I can't read you at all. And that's bugging me enough." And that's when I felt it. Her control over me was leaving my veins and being. And that felt so oddly weird. A sensation that freaks me out a bit.
"I trust that you won't make the run for it." She said. I could only give her a slight glance, finally being able to move. "Why—what about me made you trust me enough to show me that?" I said gesturing to her. She tilted her head to the side.
"It was out of common knowledge that I knew I probably freaked you out. I didn't mean to stare at you the way I did at the cafe. I was just so attracted to your scent. I didn't know how to act, I was trying to control my impulse. So I thought of showing you as a form of explanation as on why I acted that way." She said, crouching down to be eye level with me once more.
As beautiful as the golden color was, her hazel eyes were even more beautiful. "I don't know what you're thinking, but I'm not going to hurt you. It's hard enough being this close to you, don't make it any harder. I'm going out of my instincts to make sure I don't hurt you." She said and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"I figure that you feed on humans?" I asked and she shook her head. "We respect the human life for as much as we can. But every now and then, we have a fellow nurse friend lend us some human blood when things get...complicated." She said, her eyes looking away from me briefly.
"My eyes are golden because my diet consists of animal blood. Red eyes would mean that I do feed off human blood, and black eyes would mean that I'm being deprived of blood all blood." She said. I didn't know what to say. But I could tell that she was genuinely a good..person? She meant no harm, she would've attached me long ago if she actually intended to hurt me.
"So all of you guys are...vampires?" I asked and she gave me a nod. "Me and my brother are the newest to the Kang family. It's only been 40 years." She said and my jaw met the ground. "The rest have been vampire for at least more than 100 years." She said. And it was truly amazing how these..beings managed to live for so long.
"In human age, how old are you?" I asked, I've read hundreds of book that involved vampires and it's crazy, just astonishing having a mythical creature right in front of me. This felt like some crazy dream, but I knew it wasn't. It was very much real as I kept pinching myself to prove that I was in fact awake.
"Technically I've been 20 for 40 years now." She said. And she's super calm, despite the fact that I could see her struggling to keep herself under control. "I still have to work on my impulses when it comes to the scent of human blood, Jungwon mastered it so much more faster than me." She said, sitting on the ground. Completely trusting that I wouldn't run off.
"So you were 20 when you were turned?" I asked and I can't believe how calm I'm being right now. I should probably be panicking and throwing a tantrum, or maybe even throwing stuff at her. But it's said that it's best to stay calm to stay alive.
"We all have our own stories. Mine and Jungwon's consist of being a victims of gang wars back in Korea. Me and him were walking back home to our mom after she sent us to get fruits from the nearby store. When armed men appeared and started to shoot the street we were in, killing many other innocent life's as well. The street was completely destroyed, bullet holes everywhere." She looked at me, but this time I felt a tingle run up my spine.
She wasn't using her powers or anything, her hazel eyes making my heart thump against my chest. And right now I wonder if she even used her powers at all.
"Seulgi Kang was the one to find us in the streets, I thought I was the only sole person left breathing and feared that my brother was gone as he wasn't moving at all next to me. I sort of remember her crouching down and checking up on me. She talked to me to try and soothe me, easing me to prepare for my death. Her cold touch was against my skin. I was panicked, scared to die. And that's when her fangs sunk down on my skin. I vividly remember the venom coursing through my veins until I passed out." I could only sit there and listen.
I can't even deny that I'm attracted to her and I should be damned for feeling such way, the moment she walked into that cafe I was doomed. "I woke up in Alaska, and until today I don't know how I ended up around the globe. Jungwon next to me still knocked out by the venom. So now I'm stuck living an eternal life." She said looking down.
She looked genuinely upset and I didn't understand why. "Isn't an eternal life better?" I asked and she shook her head. "As the years go by, I still wish Seulgi never found me. Seeing the world change was definitely something I will never adapt to. We've moved all around Alaska to try and keep our true forms hidden. I don't want a life like that anymore." And before I could say anything else.
The door to the room was opened and the familiar voice of Karina ringed inside of my ears. "Where's Hanni?!" She asked and I turned to look back at Haerin but she was gone. Not a single trace of her ever being here. Did I hallucinate her? She was just there, I swear!
"They took her, didn't they?" Karina asked and I tried to comprehend what she was telling me as my brain was still scrambled trying to figure out how she disappeared. "Danielle, the Kim's? They took her?" And the mention of the Kim's brought my mind back to reality.
"Yes! They took her." I said. My mind still trying to comprehend what happened. Haerin is a vampire, a predator. But she showed no sign of ever wanting to hurt me, if she was truly here and I wasn't hallucinating her. "I knew it. Did you try to stop them?" Asked Karina and I nodded.
"They claimed it was for Hanni's own safety and also our own. I didn't really understand what they were talking about. But I was just so focused on the way Minji was acting with Hanni." I said and Karina furrowed her eyebrows. "She was so...protective of her. And Hanni wasn't letting her go either and it was weird. Really weird." I said and Karina just looked at me.
"That's odd, Minji was never like that. She's being protective of a complete stranger to her." Karina said as she went into deep thought. See! I know I'm not going crazy. It is weird. Even in the way Minji kept the Kim's away from Hanni.
"But they said that they'd reach out to me so that I could see Hanni." I said and Karina let out a sigh. "Something is very off, I just hope they actually reach out and that Hanni is okay." Karina said and I could only nod. Everything was very off. It was all strange, the people and beings all were off.
Even the beat of my heart as I thought of Haerin.
