Oh. They're not here.
The words the doctor had just spoken swam around inside the boy's heads. As if echoing throughout every corner of their brains.
"Wh-what do you mean they're not here?" Hoseok felt his heart starting to seize in his chest. He was searching Dr. Park's eyes for answers. "Where would they be?"
Dr. Park allowed his expression to freeze in one of great sorrow. "There was a bit of an accident last night."
All of the boys were now huddling around each other, their hearts pounding in their chests.
"Accident? What kind of accident?" Jungkook asked.
All anger towards Namjoon for destroying Mr. Sniffles immediately went out the window when the brothers heard that there had been some kind of accident.
Dr. Park sighed deeply as he slowly dropped his gaze to the floor. He held his hands behind his back, and slowly looked back up to the four young boys standing before him. He scanned them, watching how they were all now holding on to each other's arms and trying not to cry. He took the sight in for a moment.
He loved this sight so much. He loved the sorrow and remorse that was plastered across their faces.
"Dr. Park?" Jin snapped the doctor out of the trance he was in.
"Right, well. I took them out of the room so we could discuss things further, so we could get to the bottom of this and my goal was to get them to calm down. However, after a while, it seemed they were both so angry with each other. It was after all of you had already fallen asleep, but the two of them really started to get physical. I intervened the best I could, but those two- I am surprised at their physical strength. They were hurting each other so badly, I ended up having to call for an ambulance. I am surprised the lights and sirens didn't wake you, but both of them had to be transported to the hospital for their injuries."
The boys were speechless as they stared at Dr. Park with tears streaming down all of their faces.
"N-no..." Jin's lip trembled as he stuttered, letting out a small breath as he got the word out. "They wouldn't do that..."
Nothing made sense to any of them. Namjoon and Yoongi physically hurting each other to the point of hospitalization was too out of character for both of them. Sure they fought, but the boys all knew that the two had never taken it that far.
Jungkook held the tattered piece of what was left of his stuffed animal closer to his chest. He suddenly felt like the hole that Namjoon had put there was now replaced with the void that his two brothers were hurt and gone. He immediately started to feel regret for what he'd said to Namjoon and wished he could take it back.
"It is not unlikely for people to act out of character when placed under new levels of stress, or any emotion for that matter," Dr. Park explained. "Their anger got the best of them, and they needed medical attention that I was not able to give. Do not worry, they're in good hands."
Taehyung ran up and got in Dr. Park's face, immediately barking questions at him. "What exactly happened? How did they hurt each other? What time did you have to call an ambulance? Why didn't you wake us up? What hospital are they at? Do you kno-"
"Woah, woah," Dr. Park put his hands up to stop Taehyung from asking questions, "they're just at Seoul Hospital, and I promise they're receiving the finest treatment." He placed his hand on Taehyung's shoulder and squeezed it gently. "They will be alright."
That didn't bring comfort to any of them. It still didn't make any sense. New levels of stress or not, the boys couldn't comprehend Namjoon and Yoongi hurting each other that badly. Both Jin and Hoseok felt like their bodies had been physically split in half, with them both having lost their own twin. The two of them looked at each other with furrowed brows, an unspoken connection that this couldn't be right.
Jin then turned and looked at Taehyung and Jungkook as well, and seeing how scared they were completely destroyed him. He could already see the remorse on both of the two youngest's faces, remembering how they had treated Namjoon before things turned south so quickly. His heart hurt for them, possibly more than his heart hurt for himself.
Jin couldn't take it. It didn't add up. He was now the one to step forward and get in Dr. Park's face. "Tell us what actually happened to them," he demanded.
Dr. Park took a step back, somewhat shocked at Jin's sudden defense. "I told you exactly what happened."
"No you didn't," Hoseok chimed in, "you only told us they hurt each other. You didn't explain how."
Dr. Park told them the story. The story of how Namjoon and Yoongi started shoving each other and it turned into hitting and punching. How there was screaming and blood and they were both like animals completely out of control. When he was done explaining, the room fell silent again.
The next noise to be heard in the room was the noise of Jungkook sniffling, and dropping Mr. Sniffles down on the floor. "It's j-j-just a s-s-stupid stuffed a-a-animal." He buried his face into his hands and began to sob uncontrollably, his shoulders moving up and down with each hitch of the breath he could barely take.
Taehyung immediately grabbed him and pulled him into a tight hug. "Oh, Kookie..." He felt remorse for how he had acted too, but he knew it was nothing compared to how Jungkook must have been feeling.
Jin picked the tattered stuffed animal back up off the floor and threw it onto the bed. He knew Jungkook didn't mean it, it was more than a stupid stuffed animal to the boy.
Jin and Hoseok wrapped their two little brothers up in a tight group hug as the four of them cried together. Hoseok turned to the doctor and asked, "Will they at least be alright? Do you have any information?"
"I am sure they will be fine," Dr. Park insisted.
Hoseok then had a question on the tip of his tongue that he was hesitant to ask, but finally gathered the courage to hear the answer to. "Does our father know?"
Taehyung quickly replied to his hyung through his sobs. "Like he'd even care!"
"Yes, your father does know," Dr. Park informed.
This especially caught Jin's attention, because he knew his father well enough to know how he'd react to news like that. He knew Taehyung was right, their father would not care.
"What did he say?" Jin asked with a hint of curiosity in his voice.
It took a moment for Dr. Park to answer, but when he did he told them that there seemed to be a lack of concern in their fathers voice.
Exactly what everyone had expected.
So they believed that clearly, Dr. Park was telling the truth.
